POSITION SUMMARY
The Architectural Technician supports the preparation and coordination of architectural drawings and technical documentation for commercial, industrial, and specialty construction projects. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with the Architectural Designer, this role helps translate design concepts and project requirements into accurate, detailed, and constructible drawing packages.
This is a hands-on technical position requiring strong drafting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate information across design, engineering, fabrication, and field construction teams. The successful candidate will help maintain drawing accuracy, manage revisions, research applicable building-code requirements, and support projects from design development through construction and as-built documentation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Drawing Production and Documentation
- Produce floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction details in AutoCAD and/or Revit under the direction of the Architectural Designer.
- Assemble and manage drawing sets, including revision tracking, issue logs, and drawing register maintenance.
- Support as-built documentation and drawing updates following site feedback or field changes.
Technical Support
- Research applicable building code requirements (Ontario Building Code, National Building Code of Canada) and summarize findings for the Architectural Designer's review.
- Coordinate with engineering and fabrication teams to ensure design details align with structural and manufacturing constraints.
- Assist in developing and maintaining standard drawing details and drawing templates.
Design Collaboration
- Support the Architectural Designer through the design development and construction documentation phases.
- Participate in project coordination meetings and capture design decisions in drawing updates.
- Assist with 3D modelling and visualization tasks as required.
Quality and Standards
- Maintain drawing accuracy and compliance with company standards and applicable building codes
- Follow controlled document and revision management procedures
- Incorporate review feedback efficiently and communicate outstanding questions clearly
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Required
- Two- or three-year diploma in Architectural Technology from an Ontario college, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Practical familiarity with the Ontario Building Code and National Building Code of Canada
- Strong attention to detail, with demonstrated drawing organization and revision-control discipline
- Ability to work independently on assigned drawing tasks and raise clear, timely questions when clarification is required
- Comfort working within commercial and industrial project environments
Assets
- Experience with greenhouse, pre-engineered building, or light industrial projects
- Membership with the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario (AATO), or progress toward membership
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Required
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, with the ability to use it as a primary daily production tool

- Exposure to Revit or other building information modelling platforms
- Familiarity with SketchUp or other 3D modelling and visualization software
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work environment: Office
- Schedule: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Travel: Minimal travel required. Occasional local/regional travel may be required for customer meetings, job site visits, field measurements, and project-related support.

Pay: $55,000.00-$68,000.00 per year
