The Security Manager oversees the security of the Independent First Nations Alliance Communities, supporting Nursing Stations through the Emergency Operations capacity. They are responsible for the safeguarding of premises, assets, staff and visitors. This position may be responsible for the security officer positions in all IFNA communities in the future as IFNA expands security to those communities.
Responsibilities:
- Drives efforts to secure sustainable funding for IES Security, while also supportingwider IES initiatives that benefit IFNA IES and IFNA communities.
- Collaborating with programs outside of Security that contribute to the broader IESmission and vision.
- Facilitating cross-training between Security staff and Fire-Rescue, ensuringSecurity officers are trained to respond to a range of situations, such as fireemergencies, medical incidents, and other safety matters within the buildings andcommunities they safeguar
- Manages the security operations for all IFNA communities including thedevelopment and training of security staff, EMS Radio Operators and Peacekeepersas required.
- Conducts security inspections in the communities and addresses potential securityrisks.
- Collaborates with Pikangikum Peacekeepers, Pikangikum Police, IFNA EMS and OPP(Ontario Provincial Police) as necessary to maintain peace and security within thecommunity.
- Ensures staff scheduling at the nursing station to ensure continuous coverage
- Provides guidance and support to the Security Coordinator and Security Officers.
- Develops supports and oversees Security Coordinators while working collaboratively with community and other internal and external stakeholders such as Health Directors.
- Manages “surge” security officers as required to meet unexpected and fluctuating needs
- Responds to emergency when an Emergency Operations Centre is activated taking a leadership role to coordinate security efforts.
- Represents IFNA in matters related to Emergency Management goals and objectives as required and coordinates with other IES divisions to ensure security guards are cross-trained with Fire/Rescue wherever possible.
- Documents all situational responses and creates reports including daily status report as required
- All employees who work at IFNA cover for each other during vacation, if someone is away sick or if there are demands on the organization that require extra time and effort to complete. This means occasionally they may be required to do tasks outside the normal scope of their position. They are required to have cross training as part of Integrated Emergency Services and perform other duties as assigned by IES Director or designate.
Position Requirements:
- Post-secondary education – college diploma or university degree preferred
- 2 years experience in security management preferred
- Security guard license is mandatory, or ability to obtain within two months
- Standard First Aid/CPR required
- Emergency First Responder or Emergency Medical Responder preferred or ability to obtain within two months
- IMS 100 required
- IMS 200 and BEM 200 preferred or ability to obtain within two months
- Knowledge of Indigenous Emergency Services
- Ability and willingness to cross-train in other emergency services
- Ability and willingness to travel to IFNA communities 2-3 days per community per month
- Skilled in working with diverse cultures, teamwork, and professionalism
- Strong communication, advocacy, and organizational skills, along with ability to earn and maintain trust.
- Able to remain calm and productive while managing stressful situations
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
- Familiarity of Indigenous communities and organizations; experience working for an Indigenous organization.
- Understanding of Indigenous history, traditions, and beliefs with the ability to implement cultural values and practices within the delivery of services; Ability to speak Ojibwe or Oji-cree is an asset.
