Located in Kitsilano Community Centre (2690 Larch, Vancouver), this Out of School Care is located in a vibrant and youthful neighbourhood.
We provide out of school care to children in kindergarten to grade 6 who attend Lord Tennyson Elementary.
Qualifications, skills, knowledge and abilit24ies:
- Responsible Adult Certificate
- Valid First Aid certification in accordance with Vancouver Coastal Health
- Experience in licensed childcare settings
- A profound respect for children
- Physical ability to walk more than 2 kilometres in all kinds of weather
Areas of Responsibility
Leadership: Able to lead others, develop relationships with others providing resources in the community, set a positive fun tone in the classroom, good conflict resolution skills
Curriculum development/implementation and developmental appropriateness: Demonstrates strong knowledge and ability to develop stimulating, age appropriate and diverse curriculum and in recognition of Licensing’s curriculum framework, while also preserving the needs for some adaptations/adjustments for individual learning needs. Provides solid interpersonal/emotional support for each child.
Communication: ability to consistently maintain a positive, calm, respectful, developmentally appropriate, empathic approach with children, parents, co-workers and volunteers. Able to set clear expectations with children within this style, while also maintaining an esteem building, engaged, out of school care environment. Is familiar and has experience in the approaches used with challenging behaviour management in a childcare environment.
Ability to collaborate and problem solve.
Safety: Demonstrates strong knowledge, ability and application, regarding: safety practices, general supervision and familiarity with administrative tools and practices used to support child and class safety. Demonstrated ability to attend to related administrative details. Familiarity with risk management requirements within this setting. Demonstrated knowledge regarding child welfare issues and the appropriate handling of related situations. Ability to handle emergency situations in a calm and appropriate manner.
Community Resource knowledge: Has a working knowledge of resources in the community to assist families or children with specific needs or issues and can sensitively convey this information.
Ethics/professionalism: Demonstrates an understanding and commitment to various privacy issues and a track record of appropriate application.
Administration: Demonstrated ability to accurately manage the details of various administrative tasks in a timely manner. Well-developed knowledge of operational requirements for compliance with licensing.
Hours: September 8/26 to June 30/27 from 1:30/2-6 pm on school days with full time hours on pro-d days and spring break. We are closed for the two weeks of winter break following the school calendar. We are closed for the summer. Applicants will have prep hours before Sept 8 to prepare for the school year.
Pay: $24-26 /hr
Employment is subject to a criminal record check clearance as stipulated by Licensing.
