EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The Executive Director is responsible for providing strategic, operational, and financial leadership to the Neeganii Iishawin Network (the Network), ensuring the organization fulfills its mission and advances First Nation economic development across Northern Ontario. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as the key link between governance and operations while championing partnerships, growth, and sustainability.
Leadership and Vision
- In consultation with the Board of Directors and key stakeholders, developing a long term vision for the Network that will guide the organization and engage and inspire members and other stakeholders.
- Providing information to the Board of Directors including options and recommendations for decision making as necessary.
- In collaboration with the Board, developing and executing the strategic plan that provides a roadmap for the Network to achieve their goals.
Membership and Business Development
- Serving as the main point of contact for external relations and working with multiple stakeholders.
- Fostering relationships with Indigenous EDOs, businesses and communities across Northern Ontario.
- Representing the Network nationally in speaking engagements at conferences, forums, business association events, industry tradeshows, and other venues.
- Promoting and supporting Indigenous communities, EDO’s and business.
Operations
- Translating Board directives into operational plans.
- Oversee all senior staff, set direction, and acts as the main link between internal team and the board.
- Ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and understood.
- Ensuring that effective policies are developed, implemented and followed.
- Determining when external professionals support is required and budgeting accordingly.
Financial Oversight
- Negotiating various funding agreements.
- Seeking out opportunities for new funding sources and revenue streams
- Providing oversight of finances including financial management and accountability.
- Serving as the key official on all the Network funding agreements, contracts and other agreements.
- Ensuring that all reporting requirements are met for external funders.
Performing other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position, as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Reporting Relationship
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in economic development, Indigenous organizations, or non-profit/public sector environments
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, businesses and non-Indigenous government and businesses
- Strong understanding of First Nations governance, economic development priorities, and the Northern Ontario context
- Proven experience in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and program implementation
- Experience managing budgets, funding agreements, and financial oversight
- Track record of building partnerships with governments, industry, and community stakeholders and rightsholders
- Post-secondary education in business, public administration, economics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, values, and protocols

Compensation Range and Benefits
- Salary: $130,000 – $150,000
- Benefits: To be determined by the Board (may include health, travel reimbursement, and professional development support)
