About the Role
Tl’azt’en Nation is seeking a patient, organized, and supportive Adult Education Assistant to help adult learners with education upgrading, literacy, numeracy, employment readiness, life skills, and classroom participation.
This position works closely with the Adult Education Teacher and Education team to provide one on one and group learning support. The Adult Education Assistant helps create a respectful, encouraging, and culturally supportive learning environment for adult learners.
Key Responsibilities
The Adult Education Assistant will:
- Support adult learners with classroom activities, assignments, literacy, numeracy, and academic upgrading
- Assist the Adult Education Teacher with lesson preparation, materials, learner activities, and program delivery
- Provide one on one and small group learning support
- Help learners stay engaged, organized, and confident in their learning
- Assist with employment readiness, basic computer skills, life skills, and training preparation activities
- Help track learner attendance, participation, progress, and follow up needs
- Support learners in accessing education, employment, training, and community resources
- Assist with maintaining a safe, respectful, inclusive, and culturally supportive learning space
- Support students with different learning styles, confidence levels, and education backgrounds
- Help prepare classroom materials, learning resources, forms, and basic reports
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times
- Work collaboratively with Education staff, community programs, and external partners
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and training as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Certificate, diploma, or coursework in education, adult education, human services, Indigenous studies, office administration, or a related field
- Experience supporting learners, students, clients, or community members
- Experience working with adult learners is considered an asset
- Experience working in or with a First Nation community is considered an asset
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to support learners with patience, respect, and encouragement
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email, and internet based tools
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid driver’s licence is considered an asset
- Knowledge of Tl’azt’en Nation culture and community, or willingness to learn
