Fitters lay out, prepare and assemble structural steel, buckets, thumbs, couplers and other miscellaneous components.
Working under the general supervision of Fab Shop Foreman your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Fitting
Typical Duties include:

Ability to work with heavy plate steel
-
Read and interpret blueprints
-
Plan the sequence of tasks and assemble parts according to drawings
-
Fabricate steel weldments and use measuring instruments
-
Assemble and fit metal sections and plates together to form complete units or sub-units
-
Fasten components together (by tack weld) in preparation for a welder to complete the process

Ensure product quality
-
Operates and uses various other tools and hand grinders
-
Customer Service
-
Provides quality customer service to internal clients
-
Responds to requests in a prompt and expeditious manner
-
Produces quality workmanship on finished products
-
Workplace Safety
-
Maintains a clean, orderly and safe work environment at all times
-
Practices safety in the work place at all times to ensure he or she does not endanger oneself or others in the plant
-
Complies to all safety regulations, policies and procedures without any deviance, including wearing all appropriate Personal Protection Equipment at all times
-
Will perform daily pre-shift inspections on any and all equipment that will be used during the shift and inspection results will be recorded in log book
-
Will regularly check all work tools and equipment and shall take out of service any tool or equipment that poses a hazard due to a need for repairs.

All defective tools will be tagged and taken out of service for repair or must be discarded

Promotes and ensures workplace safety exists at all times

Ensures the health and safety of oneself and each and every worker

Experience
-
A minimum 3+ years of related experience
Education
-
Completion of Grade 9 (Preference will be given to high school graduates.)
-
Advanced knowledge of all safety practices
-
In-depth knowledge of all tools and equipment and their use and care
-
Communication skills to read, write, listen, and speak in a clear and concise manner to individuals at various levels
-
Interpersonal skills work collaboratively with others
-
Time management skills to productively complete work and meet all deadlines
-
Organizational skills to plan out and coordinate his or her work in a logical manner
-
Analytical skills to identify problems and find a solution, or seek advice from the supervisor

Safety conscious

Follows instructions thoroughly and uses good judgment

Demonstrates strong work ethics (attendance, punctuality, reliability, honesty, etc.)

Be proficient in the use of all tools common to the fabrication shop environment

Have a good working knowledge of acetylene cutting

Due to safety considerations and the physically demanding nature of the role, successful candidates will undergo a pre-employment medical evaluation upon hiring. Passing the Level 1 fitness test on your first attempt is a bona fide occupational requirement (BFOR).
