Summary
We are seeking a registered Second Year Apprentice in a Heavy Equipment Technician Program with experience on trucks or trailers to join our team at RBW Waste Management Ltd. As a Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing equipment.
Responsibilities
- The Apprentice Heavy-Duty Technician works under the combined supervision of the Shop Foreman and the Service Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor & heavy-duty repairs on all components, including engines, electrical controls and systems, power train, brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions, fueling and other systems.
- Follow approved methods and techniques as set out by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT).
- Perform basic and complex diagnosis of systems through the use of diagnostic scanning tools, computer software and traditional methods.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacement and lubrication as required.
- Complete Repair Orders, issued by either the Service Manager or the Shop Foreman, in a timely manner, including parts used, hours taken to complete job, explanation of work completed.
- Return Repair Orders to the Service Manager immediately upon completion of job. New jobs will be issued once paperwork is returned.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of your bay, the shop and yard. This includes disposal of debris and organisation of scrap parts and tires, and placement other waste material in the appropriate container for recycling, disposal or treatment. Spills are to be cleaned up immediately.
- Complete and submit required AIT paperwork, classwork and hours surrounding your schooling to ensure the completion of your program within the outlined timelines of your institution.
- Consult and communicate with Journeyman HET when unsure or when work is completed to ensure task is completed correctly. Participate in ongoing training and skill development opportunities.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures at all times. Report any safety, quality or environmental concerns to Service Manager immediately.
Requirements
Candidate for this position must hold a valid class 5 Drivers license. Must have completed a minimum of 1-year of schooling in a Heavy-Duty Apprentice program from an accredited institution and must be currently enrolled in school. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting, standing and working outdoors in adverse conditions. Good communication skills, attention to detail and willingness to learn and work as a team.
