Job Overview
The Barista is the heart of the café, responsible for creating high-quality beverages while delivering warm, welcoming Maritime hospitality. Baristas ensure every drink meets our standards for consistency, flavour, and presentation, while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient workspace. This role requires strong teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm and focused during busy service periods.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation & Quality
- Prepare all hot and cold beverages according to the Drink Recipe Book.
- Ensure consistency in taste, texture, temperature, and presentation.
- Monitor espresso extraction, grinder calibration, milk temperature, and overall machine performance.
- Perform final quality checks before drinks are served to guests.
Cleanliness & Organization
- Clean as you go to maintain a tidy, safe, and efficient workstation.
- Sanitize counters, tools, and equipment before, during, and after service.
- Rinse and clean milk pitchers, wipe steam wands, and maintain a clutter-free bar.
- Follow all food safety and hygiene standards, including proper handwashing.
Workflow & Efficiency
- Manage drink orders efficiently, prioritizing tickets by time received.
- Maintain composure and accuracy during peak service periods.
- Use slower periods to restock, reset stations, prep ingredients, and complete light cleaning tasks.
Communication & Teamwork
- Communicate clearly with the Coordinator, POS, and kitchen team to ensure orders are completed and served together.
- Notify supervisors or managers of low stock, equipment issues, or service delays.
- Support teammates proactively and step in where help is needed.
- Maintain a positive, team-first attitude at all times.
Guest Experience
- Greet guests warmly and provide friendly, professional service.
- Respond to guest concerns or drink errors promptly and respectfully.
- Take pride in every drink and interaction, contributing to a welcoming café environment.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous café or barista experience preferred (training provided).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency and quality.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to learn and follow standardized recipes and procedures.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry items such as milk crates and supplies.
- Manual dexterity for operating espresso equipment and tools.
- Comfortable working in a busy, open-concept kitchen environment.
Schedule & Availability
● 4–10 hour shifts
● Day and late afternoon shifts
● Weekdays, weekends, and holidays required
● Operating Hours:
○ Mon–Wed: 9:00am–5:00pm
○ Thurs–Sun: 9:00am–6:00pm
Wage:
$18.00/hr PLUS TIPS
Education & Experience
● High school diploma or equivalent
● Customer service experience (preferred)
● Experience in food service, retail, tourism, or hospitality (asset)
● Food Safe Certification and/or Responsible Beverage Server (asset)
Location & Transportation

● Reliable transportation required.
