Safety Officer (Contract Position)
Wide Open Slashing Ltd. is seeking an experienced Safety Officer to oversee health and safety operations for a large forestry mulching and seismic vegetation management project in the Fort McMurray area.
This is a field-based position supporting crews working in locations throughout northeastern Alberta.
Position Details
- Contract Term: August 15, 2026 – April 15, 2027
- Potential for contract extension
- Schedule: 24 days on / 6 days off
- 10-hour workdays
- Compensation: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour, depending on experience and employment arrangement
- Contractor or contract employee arrangements will be considered
- Company vehicle available, or use of personal vehicle may be negotiated
Responsibilities
- Lead and facilitate daily, weekly, and monthly safety meetings
- Conduct regular field inspections of work sites, equipment, and operations
- Monitor compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements
- Assist supervisors and crews with hazard assessments and incident investigations
- Track and maintain safety documentation and records
- Manage safety reporting and inspections through the Bistrainer safety management system
- Coordinate corrective actions and follow-up on safety deficiencies
- Promote a positive safety culture across all project operations
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Safety Officer in forestry, oilfield, construction, or related industries
- Strong understanding of Alberta occupational health and safety regulations
- Experience conducting field inspections and safety audits
- Familiarity with Bistrainer or similar digital safety management platforms
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Ability to work independently in remote field environments
Preferred Certifications
- Safety certification (CRSP, CRST, NCSO or similar)
- Standard First Aid with CPR
- H2S Alive
- CSTS
- WHMIS
