What you'll do
- BC Hydro is making improvements to our incident management process and related activities in the near term. The
successful candidate will be an active participant in communicating and supporting implementation of important changes
through their work, their work with peers and their work with others across BC Hydro. This is a tremendous opportunity to
participate in this change and influence how BC Hydro responds to, learns from, communicates and manages incidents.
- As a member of the Safety Planning, Incident Management Team, the Senior Safety Advisor is focused on the continuous
improvement of BC Hydro’s incident management system, the performance of investigations of serious incidents, and the
assessment of those incidents to assist responsible management in the development meaningful corrective actions.
- Leads safety and health investigations for serious incidents occurring at any location; coordinates the work of the
investigation team, gathers information through interviews, applies incident investigation analysis methodologies, consults
with subject matter experts as required, and prepares final investigation report.
- Acts as the subject matter expert in the interpretation and application of safety incident management process and
investigation methodologies, engaging all levels of the organization from the field to the executive to contractors, including
presentation of findings and analysis.
- Reviews incident notifications for technical accuracy, conducts further research and investigation as necessary; follows-up
with originators for data clarification, corrections, and to provide guidance on compliance and system reporting
requirements.
- Oversees and supports the use of the incident management system, the communication of roles and responsibilities as
they relate to incident management, and the performance of incident investigation by others in the Safety group.
- Provides guidance and quality assurance in the development of effective corrective action plans (CAs) to address causes
of safety incidents.
- Audits the completion, implementation, and effectiveness of CAs arising from safety incidents.
- Works with regulatory agencies (e.g. WorkSafeBC) to provide the appropriate information required by regulators.
- Supports management as a subject matter expert in their ongoing relationship with WorkSafeBC in relation to incident
management.
- Supports planning and development of employee training and mentoring in safety incident management and investigation.
- Supports development of incident management standards and processes.
- Supports continuous improvement of IT solutions for incident management, such as SAP IMS.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
