The Forestry and Peatlands Branch is seeking to fill a Birds Hill Forestry Operations Supervisor position. The position is located at the Birds Hll Forestry Operations Yard and is responsible for the care, maintenance and management of the yard and will job shadow the current site supervisor prior to his retirement given the complexity of the role.
Duties:
The position is located at the Birds Hll Forestry Operations Yard and is responsible for the care, maintenance and management of the yard. This position also oversees safety at the site, vehicle and equipment management and maintenance, field operations purchasing and third party contracts. The position will occasionaly supervise staff working at the site.

Qualifications:
Essential:
- Certification, training, or substantial experience in logistics, operations management, small engine repair, or a related field within the natural resource or environmental sector; equivalent experience may be considered
- Demonstrated ability to manage equipment and vehicle inventories including maintenance scheduling and procurement
- Experience with managing contracts including coordination with vendors and familiarity with government procurement processes
- Experience and/or training in Workplace Safety and Health and safe work practices.
- Experience driving a variety of vehicles, such as trucks, vans, and/or all terrain vehicles, including towing trailers over a variety of terrain
- Strong verbal communicaiton skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers and the public
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
- Srong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment
- Experience supervising yard operations and staff
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent from other provinces without any restrictions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via trucks, all-terrain vehicles, boats, or rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime when required and work out-of-town for extended periods of up to ten days with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels and tents.
- Must be physically capable of performing duties of the position which require moderate physical effort including carrying equipment such as chainsaws and forestry samples for long distances potentially over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions.
