Urban Nature Store – Hamilton, ON

Urban Nature Store in Hamilton/Ancaster is looking for a Store Manager who can create an engaging retail experience, lead a knowledgeable team, and support the day-to-day operations of our fastest growing store.
About Us
At Urban Nature Store, we’re more than a retail space—we’re a hub for bird lovers, backyard naturalists, and anyone curious about the natural world. We have 9 stores in Ontario and our Hamilton location is our newest and fastest growing location.
What You’ll Do
As Store Manager, you’ll balance customer experience, team leadership, and operational coordination in a dynamic environment.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and support a team of sales associates and store staff
- Foster a collaborative, positive, and knowledgeable team culture
- Train team members on product knowledge, birding basics, and customer engagement
- Create schedules and manage staffing to support both retail and operational needs
- Manage payroll submissions for team members.
Customer Experience
- Create a warm, welcoming environment for every customer
- Engage with customers about birding, feeders, seed types, and local Ontario wildlife
- Build relationships with the Thornhill community and repeat customers
- Ensure a consistently high level of personalized, knowledgeable service
Merchandising & Store Environment
- Oversee creative, seasonal merchandising that reflects local birding trends
- Maintain an organized, clean, and inspiring retail space
- Develop displays that educate and excite customers about backyard nature
Operations & Inventory
- Coordinate closely with the on-site warehouse team for receiving and inventory flow
- Oversee stock levels, merchandising replenishment, and product availability
- Support order fulfillment awareness for mail-order and store distribution
- Ensure smooth daily operations, including POS systems and cash handling
Sales & Performance
- Monitor store performance and work toward sales and other KPI targets
- Identify opportunities to grow sales and enhance the in-store experience
- Support promotions, seasonal campaigns, and community events
What We’re Looking For
- A genuine passion for nature, birding, or the outdoors
- Retail management or leadership experience (store or assistant manager level)
- Strong communication and team leadership skills
- A hands-on, lead-by-example approach
- A creative eye for merchandising and visual presentation
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with both retail and operational elements

Compensation
- Salary: $18.50 - $19.50/hour (based on experience)
- Bonus: Uncapped performance-based incentives paid monthly (typically equal to an additional $3 to $5 per hour)
