Job Summary:
The Teacher Assistant will support classroom teachers in delivering individualized instruction and care to students with special needs. This role requires a compassionate, flexible, and attentive individual who can assist in implementing educational and behavioral programs while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas.
- Support students with physical tasks, such as mobility, toileting, feeding, and hygiene, as needed.
- Monitor and record student progress and behaviors, reporting observations to the teacher and other specialists.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
- Reinforce positive behaviors and help implement behavior management strategies.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
- Foster respectful and supportive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Passion for working with children with special needs.
- Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift and assist students with mobility needs (if applicable).
Preferred:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Child Development, or a related field.
- Prior experience working with children with autism, developmental delays, or physical disabilities.
- Certification in CPR, First Aid, or Crisis Intervention.
Working Conditions:
- May involve physical activity including lifting and assisting students.
- Work is conducted in a classroom and school setting.
- May require participation in outdoor or community-based activities.
