Food is more than nourishment to our Residents; it is often the highlight of their day.
The Cook/Baker plays a key role in creating positive dining experiences for residents by preparing breakfast, baking fresh goods, and assisting with lunch and supper meal preparation and service. This position also supports kitchen and dining room operations and provides leadership and guidance to Kitchen Aides in the absence of the Cook.
Meal/Baking Preparation
The Cook/Baker will ensure high quality foods are used to prepare exciting menu items.
Understand the appropriate operation of all kitchen equipment for proper mixing and safe use
- Prepare baking and meals in accordance with approved menu
- Ensure recipes are followed
- Ensure adherence to Safe Food Handling and regulated temperature guidelines
- Ensure baking, snacks, and meals are ready on time
- Ensure baking and snacks meet daily quantity requirements
- Ensure food supplies are returned to appropriate storage area
- Abide by the waste management plan e.g. recycling, composting
- Ensure meals are aesthetically pleasing and tasty
Meal Service
The Cook/Baker will ensure that meals are served impressively, timely and professionally.
- Ensure FSAs wear clean aprons and uniforms when serving food
- Ensure adherence to Safe Food Handling e.g. proper hand washing practices
- Ensure meals are served as per meal service schedule
- Ensure Residents are greeted and served politely
- Ensure serveries are well stocked.
- Serve meals and beverages according to Resident preferences and needs
- Ensure meals meet quantity requirements/requests of Residents
- Deliver food trays to Resident suites if required
- Monitor and inform Site Director and Cook of changes in Resident eating habits
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Safe Food Handling Course
- WHMIS
- Several years experience as a Cook
