Duties
General
· Open and close the studio – including lighting up, shutting down equipment, and charging the furnace as scheduled.
· Cycle and unload annealers.
· Coldworking workshops and production pieces.
· Help with daily and general studio cleanliness and maintenance.
· Support marketing/sales and customer service activities as requested. This includes packing and shipping pieces, cleaning/wrapping workshop pieces.
· Attend team meetings regarding scheduling, production, projects, and new services.
Teaching Responsibilities
· Set up bench(s) for make-your-own workshops or private lessons, strike and clean-up.
· Clearly communicate and safely demonstrate the use of tools and techniques to help ensure clients have a successful hands-on experience.
· Make safety a priority for all activities.
· Teach/mentor private lesson students on glassblowing and coldworking processes.
· Apply a calm, fun spirit to working with all sorts of people (13 years old and up). Understand that when folks spend time with us, they’re generally celebrating a special occasion, and so we strive to ensure they have a fine experience at fascapple glass.
Requirements
· Ideally 2–3 years of professional glassblowing experience (provide bench hours in the last 12 months).
· Prior “make-your-own” teaching and/or assisting experience preferred
· Basic, efficient coldworking skills
· Strong safety focus and knowledge of emergency procedures.
· Attentive to your surroundings, monitoring equipment, and processes.
· Willing to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
· Consistently self-motivated, organized, can manage time, keep records, and are punctual and reliable. Have your own transportation.
· Cool-headed, sense of humour, clear communication skills, passion for working with people.
· Comfortable working one-on-one or with larger groups
· Enjoy collaborating with the team on teaching, creative/design/production, and/or mundane tasks.
Bonus Points:
· Basic to mid-level production skills
· Sales and/or gallery experience
· Experience with POS systems
· Design software capabilities
· Packing and shipping experience
· Internships with other studios
Pay: $23.00-$26.00 per hour
