Ice Cream Manufacturing Production Lead Hand/ Supervisor

Prairie West Ice Cream is a Manitoba family-owned and operated business dedicated to producing high-quality ice cream products. Our plant is currently CFIA, BRC, and Peanut-Free certified. Our plant produces several brands of ice cream in a variety of container sizes and is increasing our portfolio each year with new products and clients. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with and supervise the overall production team and equipment to achieve maximum production goals efficiently.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned, sanitized, and operational prior to production, including inclusion equipment, hookups, and pre-operation checks.
- Assist with morning setup and end-of-day shutdown procedures to facilitate smooth production transitions.
- Ensure all operating standards, including food safety protocols, are adhered to and final products meet quality standards.
- Monitor quality control checkpoints (CCPs) and traceability requirements, maintaining accurate documentation.
- Verify that correct supplies of packaging and ingredients are available for production needs.
- Monitor and control ice cream freezer operations, conveyors, flavor dosing equipment, and product flow/speed, including additional sorting.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning at capacity and procedures are followed; perform preventative maintenance as needed.
- Multitask effectively and work well in a fast-paced environment, making quick and critical decisions to prevent production loss.
- Foster a positive working environment by maintaining strong relationships with all team members, maximizing morale, productivity, and efficiency while upholding quality and safety standards.
- Work closely with the QA department to ensure all deviations and traceability requirements are documented and controlled.
- Train and manage team members to be successful in all areas of the department; conduct regular reviews with production employees and provide coaching and development as needed for process or policy changes.
- Demonstrate operational and technological proficiency, with a strong understanding of relevant production processes, equipment, preventative maintenance, quality control, and food safety standards.
- Utilize technical aptitude and mechanical knowledge of facilities and equipment to troubleshoot issues as needed.
Qualifications:
- Mechanical inclination with a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in food manufacturing; dairy experience preferred.
- Strong math skills and understanding of traceability and food safety requirements.
- Experience with quality control documents and equipment such as metal detectors, X-ray machines, and weight checks is required.
- Proficiency in computer use, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to read, review, and understand manuals for equipment operation and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of and adherence to GMP, CFIA, BRC guidelines, and allergen controls; ability to motivate teams and produce efficiently with minimal losses.
- Reliable, dependable, and accountable, with a willingness for self-development.
- Strong skills in critical thinking, instruction, listening, problem solving, and teamwork.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintains personal hygiene to food industry standards.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 30–50 lbs.
- Possession of a valid forklift license.

Work Schedule:
Full-Time: Tuesday to Friday, range from 6:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (10 hours shift)
Some Mondays are required, at least one per month for management meeting.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $50,000.00-$52,000.00 per year
