Position Summary
The Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) is responsible for overseeing and supporting the financial operations of Peavine Métis Settlement. The CPA ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, budgeting, auditing preparation, payroll oversight, and strategic financial planning while supporting transparency and accountability to Council, administration, and Settlement members.
The successful candidate will provide professional financial guidance and contribute to the long-term financial sustainability and operational effectiveness of the Settlement.
Key Responsibilities Financial Management
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and reports.
- Oversee general ledger activities, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end processes.
- Monitor cash flow, revenues, expenditures, and financial forecasting.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, legislation, funding agreements, and reporting requirements.
Budgeting & Planning
- Assist in developing annual operating and capital budgets.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to leadership and Council.
- Monitor departmental budgets and provide variance reporting.
- Support long-term financial and strategic planning initiatives.
Audit & Compliance
- Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
- Prepare audit working papers and supporting documentation.
- Ensure internal controls and financial policies are maintained and followed.
- Assist with policy development and financial procedure improvements.
Payroll & Accounts Oversight
- Oversee payroll accuracy and compliance.
- Supervise accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Ensure timely remittances and reporting obligations are completed.
Funding & Reporting
- Prepare financial reports for government agencies, funding partners, and stakeholders.
- Assist with grant tracking, funding allocations, and reporting requirements.
- Support financial accountability related to Settlement programs and projects.
Leadership & Administration
- Provide mentorship and support to finance staff.
- Participate in management meetings and organizational planning.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all financial matters.
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation & Certification
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of accounting or financial management experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous organizations, municipalities, non-profits, or government-funded organizations is considered an asset.
- Experience with budgeting, audits, payroll, and financial reporting.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Criminal Record Check may be required.
