Are you a tech-savvy problem solver who loves working with both your hands and your mind? We are seeking a Smart Home Systems Integrator to join our growing team. In this role, you will be the face of our company—taking smart home projects from bare studs and wiring blueprints to fully integrated, living ecosystems.
You will be responsible for the physical installation of high-end smart home systems, configuring complex home networks, mounting and programming surveillance and security systems, and providing top-tier training to clients so they can confidently enjoy their new tech.
Key Responsibilities
- Physical Installation & Retrofitting: Run low-voltage cabling (Cat6, speaker wire, security wire), mount touch screens, hang TVs, and safely utilize power tools to complete clean architectural integrations through drywall, wood, and concrete.
- Surveillance & Security Systems: Mount, wire, and align IP/analog surveillance cameras and Network Video Recorders (NVRs). Install and configure residential security hardware, including motion sensors, door/window contacts, glass-break detectors, and smart locks.
- Motorized Shades & Lighting: Measure, install, and program automated window treatments (motorized shades, blinds, or drapery tracks) and integrate them seamlessly into the home automation environment.
- System Programming & Integration: Program and commission smart home automation control systems (e.g., Control4, Savant, Lutron, Crestron) to link security, lighting, shading, and cameras into custom automated scenes and unified user interfaces.
- Network Deployment: Build, configure, and troubleshoot robust residential IP networks. This includes installing enterprise-grade routers, managed switches, and wireless access points (WAPs) to ensure secure subnets for IP cameras and smart devices.
- Client Handover & Training: Conduct professional walkthroughs with clients post-installation. Clearly and patiently explain how to use their automation systems, view camera feeds, arm/disarm security, and navigate mobile apps.
Core Requirements & Qualifications
- Hands-on Construction/Trade Skills: Comfort operating a wide array of power tools (drills, reciprocating saws, fish sticks) for clean wiring and structural mounting.
- Technical & Security Experience: Proven experience installing and programming residential security panels and IP surveillance networks (PoE cameras, NVR configuration, remote access setups).
- Shading & Automation Familiarity: Experience handling the delicate installation and calibration of motorized window treatments and low-voltage shading power supplies.
- Strong Networking Foundation: Deep understanding of IP networking, DHCP reservation, port forwarding, VLANs, and Wi-Fi signal optimization.
- Customer-Centric Attitude: Exceptional communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into plain language for non-technical users.
- Logistics & Legal:
- Must possess a valid Ontario G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work comfortably in tight spaces (attics, crawlspaces).
Preferred (But Not Required) Asset Qualifications
- Certifications in specific control/shading platforms (e.g., Control4, Lutron Homeworks/Sivoia, Somfy, Savant).
- Experience with specific security brands (e.g., DSC, Honeywell, Qolsys, Alarm.com).
- Network certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA).
