Job Overview
The General Labourer is responsible for assisting Site Superintendents, Skilled Tradespersons, and Construction Crews in the successful completion of Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) construction projects. The General Labourer performs a variety of physical tasks including site preparation, material handling, housekeeping, demolition support, equipment operation, and general construction assistance while maintaining a safe and productive work environment.
Responsibilities
Assist with site setup, including unloading materials and organizing tools and supplies.
Support skilled tradespeople by carrying out basic tasks such as mixing materials, cleaning work areas, and preparing surfaces.
Help with the transportation of materials around the site using manual handling techniques or machinery when certified.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by disposing of debris, sweeping work areas, and adhering to safety protocols.
Perform routine inspections of equipment and tools to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
Follow instructions from supervisors to complete assigned tasks efficiently and accurately.
Assist with loading and unloading deliveries, ensuring materials are stored securely and correctly.
Site Operations
- Assist with daily construction activities as directed by the Site Superintendent.
- Load, unload, move, and distribute construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Prepare and clean work areas to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Perform manual labour tasks including digging, lifting, carrying, and site cleanup.
- Assist tradespersons including carpenters, bricklayers, concrete crews, and other subcontractors.
- Set up and dismantle temporary fencing, hoarding, signage, and site protection systems.
- Assist with demolition, excavation, and renovation activities.
- Support project closeout activities and final site cleanup.
Health & Safety
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
- Wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and site orientations.
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe work conditions.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with company standards.
Material & Equipment Handling
- Operate hand tools and basic power tools safely and effectively.
- Inspect and maintain tools and equipment as required.
- Assist with deliveries and inventory of construction materials.
- Safely store and secure materials on site.
Qualifications
- Previous construction experience considered an asset.
- Experience working on ICI construction projects is preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of construction practices and site safety.
- Reliable transportation to project sites.
- Valid Ontario Driver's Licence considered an asset.
Required Certifications
- WHMIS
- Working at Heights (Ontario)
- Health & Safety Awareness Training
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certification considered an asset
- Additional site-specific certifications may be required

- Construction sites including commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare, educational, and manufacturing facilities.
- Exposure to noise, dust, vibration, and varying weather conditions.
- Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required to meet project schedules.

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 45.0 per week
