Reporting To: Education/Family Well-Being Services Director
Overview:
The Family Well-Being Worker (Aioianerá:tie ne Kahwá:tsire Iakoió’te) is responsible for providing access to a range of Social Services Programs for community members with families to improve the overall health and wellbeing of Indigenous children, youth, women, individuals, families, and communities. The primary focus is to administer programs to qualified individuals to prevent the cycle of violence against and within Indigenous families and communities, and to reduce the overrepresentation of Indigenous children and youth in the child welfare and youth justice systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain detailed case notes from client interactions and develop client services and file management systems while ensuring a high standard of confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with government requirements.
- Attend and actively participate in assigned meetings to understand the priorities, programs, progress, and safety updates for Wahta.
- Collaborate within the department, with all Wahta employees, and with external service providers to deliver holistic support, programming, resources, and services to the family unit.
- Develop and facilitate awareness workshops, events, and activities that promote healthy families, cultural awareness, and mental health understanding in the community.
- Support families by developing partnerships with professionals to promote children's learning and development, and provide general information on funding opportunities for psychological/health development services.
- Track community participation, referral success, and program statistics to maintain record systems required for funders and analytic reporting.
- Communicate with community members to answer questions, explain information, and address complaints regarding Family Well-Being programs in a polite and timely manner.
- Provide input, monitor, and report on annual program budgets and map out financial data to forecast annual expenditures under the direction of the Director.
- Manage monthly financial program expenses by collecting receipts, completing forms, and obtaining necessary spending approvals in a timely manner.
- Conduct research, compile data, and prepare annual reports for the Director to ensure programs reflect up-to-date information on family and child wellness.
- Promote the learning and use of the Mohawk language and support the organization's dedication to cultural advancement.
- Perform other related duties and operational tasks at an appropriate level as assigned by leadership.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum College Diploma in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar or related position with a proven demonstration of skills.
- Minimum 2 years of working with youth/students.
- Minimum 2 years of administrative experience.
Skills Required:
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be reliable and dependable, and committed to maintaining confidentiality.
- Must have the ability to work in and contribute to a team environment.
- Must have a proficient level of communication skills, verbal and written, and be comfortable dealing with the public.
- Must have the capacity to take initiative and to multi-task at times to accomplish the tasks and activities assigned.
- Knowledge of the various types of support services available to families, within the community and beyond.
- Regular to frequent requirement, and as needed, to lift children (up to 45 lbs), including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, and sitting and walking.
- Experience working in a First Nation environment is an asset.
- Knowledge in Kanienkeha:ka culture and history is an asset.
- Must posses a current and valid Driver's License and dependable vehicle.
Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time position. The salary range for this role is $57,700.00 to $86,300.00 annually. The standard hours of work are Monday to Thursday (8:00 am – 4:30 pm) and Friday (8:00 am – 2:00 pm), with evenings and weekends required as needed for operations.
