Qikiqtani Industry Ltd. (QIL) is seeking a skilled and reliable Chef to support catering operations in Pond Inlet (Mittimatalik), Nunavut. Reporting directly to Site Services Coordinator, the Sous Chef is responsible for assisting in the preparation, planning and service of three daily meals for approximately 30-40 clients daily, mainiting kitchen hygiene standards, and ensuring smooth kitchen operations.
This role is well-suited to a hands-on cook who takes pride in food quality, works well in a team, and is comfortable operating in a remote northern community environment. Accommodation and food will be provided while working at the facility and there are options with travel allowance and rotations.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This includes but is not limited to the following:
- Planning, preparing, and serving three daily meals – hot breakfast, cold lunch, and hot dinner – for approximately 30–40 clients
- Step up to lead kitchen operations in the absence of the Site Services Coordinator, ensuring continuity of service
- Support menu development that is nutritious, culturally appropriate, and accommodates dietary restrictions and allergies
- Maintain all food safety standards, including proper handling, storage, temperature control, and HACCP compliance
- Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, equipment, and food preparation areas through daily and periodic sanitation checks
- Assist with food inventory management, stock rotation, and requisition of supplies in coordination with the Site Services Coordinator
- Monitor portion control and minimize food waste through efficient preparation and planning
- Incorporate traditional Inuit foods and ingredients where available and appropriate, in keeping with Inuit cultural values
- Report any kitchen maintenance issues, safety concerns, or supply shortages to the Site Services Coordinator in a timely manner
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills as required
REQUIREMENTS
- Culinary diploma, Red Seal certification, or equivalent training from an accredited institution
- Minimum 3 years of professional cooking experience, preferably in a camp, institutional, or remote setting
- Valid Food Safety Certification (FOODSAFE Level 1 or equivalent)
- Knowledge of food safety standards including proper handling, storage, and HACCP principles
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team in a remote location
- Experience working in Nunavut or other northern communities (preferred)
- Familiarity with Inuit cultural values and IQ principles (preferred)
- First Aid / CPR Certification (asset)
WORKING CONDITIONS
- The successful candidate must be prepared to work in a remote northern environment, including adaptation to seasonal climate variations. Accommodation and meals are provided while at work.
- The position involves early morning starts, physical kitchen work, and sustained periods of standing. The role requires close coordination with the Site Services Coordinator.

Pay: $75,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
