Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced General Carpenter Team Lead to join our growing construction and renovation team. This hands-on leadership role combines carpentry expertise with field supervision responsibilities across residential and commercial renovation projects.
The successful candidate will lead crews, coordinate daily site activities, ensure quality workmanship, and help deliver projects safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to high professional standards. This position is ideal for an experienced carpenter who enjoys mentoring team members while remaining actively involved in project execution.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management
- Lead and coordinate daily activities of carpenters, apprentices, and labourers.
- Assign tasks and manage workflow to maintain productivity and project schedules.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure quality standards are consistently met.
- Mentor and support the development of apprentices and junior team members.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.
- Address on-site challenges and communicate concerns to Project Management.
- Lead by example through professionalism, safety, and craftsmanship.
Carpentry & Construction
- Perform framing, structural modifications, blocking, backing installation, and general carpentry work.
- Construct, repair, and modify walls, ceilings, floors, roofs, and other building components.
- Install doors, windows, hardware, millwork, and finishing materials.
- Complete demolition, site preparation, and renovation work as required.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable building codes and industry standards.
- Troubleshoot construction challenges and implement practical solutions.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate daily site activities to ensure projects progress according to schedule.
- Work closely with Project Managers regarding labour, materials, equipment, and site requirements.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and other trades to maintain workflow and minimize delays.
- Monitor project progress and communicate updates, concerns, and resource needs.
- Assist with material ordering, receiving, inventory tracking, and organization.
Quality Control
- Ensure work is completed to high-quality standards and client expectations.
- Inspect completed work and correct deficiencies.
- Verify measurements, layouts, installations, and construction details.
- Minimize rework through proper planning and attention to detail.
- Support continuous improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
Safety
- Promote and enforce workplace safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and identify hazards.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain safe operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Participate in safety meetings and training initiatives.
Client Service
- Maintain professional interactions with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Communicate effectively and address concerns in a professional manner.
- Support a culture of customer satisfaction, accountability, and teamwork.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Journeyman Carpenter certification preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years of carpentry and renovation experience in residential and/or commercial construction.
- Previous experience leading crews, supervising field personnel, or acting as a lead hand preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and renovation practices.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and site logistics.
- Ability to perform accurate measurements, layouts, and installations.
- Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
- Strong organizational and coordination abilities.
