Rate of Pay: $39.73 per hour
The start date will follow the selection process.
Main Function: Perform the duties of a Licenced Welder/Fitter/Fabricator.
Characteristic: Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.
Duties:
1. Repair worn or damaged construction equipment, machined, fabricated, cast, forged, or welded metal parts as specified by work-orders, diagrams, or sample parts using electric arc or oxy-acetylene welding.
2. Fabricate and fit metal parts and assemblies from verbal or written instructions or diagrams including installations thereof.
3. Repair/refabricate motor mounts and shock mounts, and complete bulkhead repair work on city buses.
4. Custom design aluminum fabrication for Fire vehicles.
5. Perform mechanical work, such as installation of attachments for heavy equipment.
6. Submit requests for materials necessary to perform work requirements to the Lead Hand or Equipment Parts Expeditor.
7. Coordinate the purchase of materials for the shop such as but not limited to angles, plate, steel materials for fabrication.
8. Work with supervisor to design/draw prints to arrange for vendor fabrication.
9. Order consumable welding supplies (e.g., plasma, rods, gloves, wire, grinding discs, etc.).
10. In conjunction with the supervisor, work with machine shop vendors to fabricate tools.
11. Oversee the activities of a helper when necessary.
12. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
13. Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Education and Training:
- Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
- Possess and maintain an Ontario Department of Labour all-position welding certificate.
- Must be able to acquire a Class “DZ” driver’s licence.
Experience:
- Preferably experienced in blacksmith work.
Other Requirements:
- Proven ability to read, interpret and work from drawings and blueprints.
- Knowledge of welding a variety of metals such as aluminum, stainless stell, cast steel, steel, etc.
- Knowledge and experience with welding processes (e.g., tig, mig, stick, flux core, silver solder, etc.).
- Ability to use burning and cutting equipment such as torches, plasma cutter, lancing rod, arc air, etc.
- Ability to use various lifting devices (robots, hoists) and operate mobile and overhead cranes.
- Must be able to do own lay-out and set-up work.
- Must own an acceptable Welder’s tool kit valued at no less than $250.00.
- Must be able to effectively complete M.M.M.S. crew cards.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
- May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence, and have an acceptable driving record.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $37.74 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
