POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Systems / Senior Project Engineer (Sr Systems / Sr PE) is a hybrid role combining deep technical ownership with project execution leadership.
This role is responsible for:
- Owning system-level design and technical decisions
- Driving project execution from design through delivery
- Acting as the primary technical reference for assigned programs
- Bridging Engineering, Project Management, Quality, and Operations
Unlike a traditional Project Engineer, this role is expected to lead through influence, anticipate risks, and ensure both technical integrity and on-time delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
System Ownership & Technical Leadership
- Own system architecture, design integrity, and technical decisions across assigned projects
- Review and validate designs (electrical, mechanical, integration)
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and industry standards
- Lead design reviews (internal and customer-facing)
- Support root cause analysis (RCA), NCRs, and corrective actions
Project Execution & Delivery
- Drive execution of projects from kickoff through delivery
- Define and manage deliverables, timelines, and priorities
- Ensure alignment between Engineering, Purchasing, and Production
- Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies
- Support on-time, right-first-time delivery
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Act as the primary technical interface between departments
- Collaborate closely with:
- Project Managers (schedule & customer commitments)
- Manufacturing (DFM, production readiness)
- Quality (NCR, RMA, continuous improvement)
- Supply Chain (technical validation of components/vendors)
- Ensure clear communication and alignment across all stakeholders
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Lead complex technical troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Support and drive CAPA, FRACAS, and PFMEA activities
- Identify opportunities for design standardization and process improvement
- Contribute to lessons learned and knowledge sharing
Mentorship & Technical Guidance
- Provide guidance and support to Project Engineers and junior engineers
- Review work and ensure consistency with engineering standards
- Act as a go-to resource for technical problem solving
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
Experience
- 8+ years in engineering within a manufacturing or systems environment
- Experience in both system design and project execution
- Experience in rail, transportation, or electro-mechanical systems is a strong asset
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of system integration (mechanical + electrical)
- Experience with design reviews, validation, and testing
- Familiarity with:
- NCR / RMA processes
- Root cause analysis methodologies
- Engineering documentation and change management (ECN)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

Pay: $87,000.00-$129,000.00 per year
