Shift: (Days) Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
SUMMARY
The Freight Specialist is responsible for planning and coordinating daily LTL freight operations to ensure efficient, on-time deliveries while maximizing equipment utilization and load profitability. This role serves as a key liaison between drivers, customers, and internal departments, providing exceptional operational support, tracking shipments, resolving service issues, and maintaining accurate transportation documentation to ensure seamless day-to-day operations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize and line up loads to ensure that deliveries are made within LTL schedule, loads are created for appropriate revenue, empty miles are held to a minimum, and loads are protected to ensure proper temperature of product etc.
- Maximize load factor for optimal revenue per load
- Support team members with incoming LTL calls and emails
- Contribute and take the lead as the main contributor to the satisfaction of drivers
- Track trailer temperatures after loading
- Work with customers regarding transit times, pick up and delivery schedules
- Go on the dock to view product and work with dock supervisor to understand freight
- Prepare dock sheets with loading instructions and details in a timely manner
- Act as liaison between driver, operations, shop, driver services etc.
- Prepare and print driver route information
- Collaborate with planners and coordinate scheduled assignments of drivers and equipment
- Liaise with other operating locations to maximize equipment efficiency and utilization
- Respond to service issues from internal and external customers
- Track shipments from point up pick up to delivery and maintain accurate and time-sensitive information
- Prepare various daily, weekly, and monthly reports
- Assist in preparing necessary paperwork relating to shipping schedules, customs, loading and provide to the appropriate stakeholders
- Maintaining and building a positive rapport with all drivers and other departments
- Back up for department staff, when required
- All other duties as required
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3 years of previous Dispatcher experience within the transportation industry required
- Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and various equipment types required
- Ability to identify and constructively make recommendations regarding operational improvements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Previous experience with routing software considered an asset
- Strong leadership skills and ability solve problems efficiently and effectively
- Knowledge of Highway Traffic Act, hours of service logs, load security and Regulations required
- Excellent customer service skills
- Advanced experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Flexible to work afternoon shift on a team rotation.
- Flexible to cover other shifts as require
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Salaried position based on 42.5 hours per week.
- Hours of work are subject to change according to needs, volumes, vacations schedules etc.
