About the role
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Journeyperson Service Technician to join Kerr Controls as we continue to expand our HVAC service offerings across Vancouver Island.
In this role, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment at a variety of customer sites throughout Victoria, Nanaimo, and the surrounding areas. As our dedicated HVAC technician on Vancouver Island, you will enjoy a high level of autonomy while working closely and collaboratively with the Kerr team.
This is an exciting opportunity to help establish and grow our HVAC presence on Vancouver Island while building strong, long-term relationships with commercial customers. Our work primarily supports commercial and light industrial facilities, including office buildings, server rooms, laboratories, clean rooms, and other specialized environments.
This is a full-time position averaging 40 hours per week.
In this role you will
- Service, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC equipment.
- Work on rooftop units (RTUs), make-up air units (MAUs), unit heaters, heat pump systems, boiler room components, and associated controls.
- Respond to service calls and perform preventative maintenance inspections.
- Identify equipment deficiencies and provide recommendations for repairs or improvements.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with customers through professional communication and service delivery.
- Complete service documentation, work orders, and reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Work safely and in accordance with company policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
- Collaborate with the service team to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- Represent Kerr Controls professionally at customer sites and within the community.
To succeed in this role
Must Haves
- Journeyperson HVAC/Refrigeration certification (Red Seal).
- Minimum 5 years of commercial HVAC service experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities across a variety of commercial HVAC systems.
- Experience servicing rooftop units, make-up air units, unit heaters, heat pumps, and boiler room equipment.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driving record.
- Strong understanding of safe work practices and industry regulations.
- Ability to work independently and manage service calls effectively.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, and working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other industrial environments.
- Gas fitter “B” ticket
Nice to Haves
- Gas Fitter "A" Ticket.
- Experience working with building automation and control systems.
- Experience working in laboratories, server rooms, clean rooms, healthcare facilities, or other specialized environments.
- Electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Refrigeration experience.
- Experience using mobile service software and digital work order systems.
- Additional industry certifications or manufacturer training.

Pay: $60.00-$70.00 per hour
