The Burnaby Neighbourhood House is currently seeking an energetic professional to join our team as the supervisor of the Farsi Caregiver & Peer Support Programs. The Supervisor will work with BNH’s seniors team to deliver caregiver support and education to Farsi-speaking caregivers as well as implement a bi-weekly volunteer-led peer support group for Farsi-speaking seniors (55+).
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement caregiver support activities for Farsi-speaking Caregivers
Organize monthly workshops and educational sessions in first-language for Farsi Caregivers
Train and support volunteers to lead caregiver support activities
Provide one-on-one caregiver support and match caregivers with trained volunteers as necessary
Supervise a volunteer-led bi-weekly group for Farsi-speaking seniors
Track statistical information for Farsi caregiver and peer support programs
Liaise with Caregiver team around strategical planning of Burnaby Caregiver support services
Collaborate with caregiver team to deliver an annual Multicultural Caregiver Event
Provide wrap-around services and programs for Farsi-speaking caregivers and seniors, including supports from BNH and from other community-based organizations
Create connections with Burnaby’s health and senior serving sectors to facilitate appropriate referrals to the caregiver and peer support program
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Fluent in Farsi (Dari an asset)
- Experience working with seniors and caregivers from diverse backgrounds, including newcomers
- Strong organizational skills
- Proven ability to create systems and manage tracking systems
- Experience working with and supervising volunteers
- Excellent communication, writing, planning and problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations and with a broad range of community and public partners.
- Knowledge and awareness of issues surrounding justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in the workplace, including working across Burnaby Neighbourhood Houses as needed
- Current Emergency first-aid certification or willing to obtain
- Current Food Safe certification or willing to obtain.
Reporting:
The Supervisor will work directly with the Manager of Seniors’ Services
Hours & Pay rate:
12 hours per week
Rate of pay: $24.09
The position is fixed-term, ending on March 31, 2027
