Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Canadian Tax Senior Associate to join our growing tax team. Reporting to the Canadian Tax Manager, the successful candidate will work with a diverse portfolio of clients and play an integral role in tax compliance, tax planning, tax research, and advisory engagements.
We are seeking an experienced Canadian tax professional who is collaborative, team-oriented, and tech-savvy, with a strong commitment to delivering exceptional client service. The ideal candidate has experience preparing tax files and Canadian income tax returns for individuals, corporations, and trusts, as well as GST/HST returns and other tax filings. They have demonstrated experience supporting tax planning and advisory engagements, conducting tax research, and working directly with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and other tax authorities. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and prioritization skills, sound professional judgment, and excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be available to work additional hours, with flexible availability during peak tax seasons, to meet client and business deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Canadian income tax returns, including T1, T2, T3, GST/HST returns, and other required tax filings.
- Prepare tax working papers and supporting documentation for a variety of client engagements.
- Assist with tax planning, business reorganizations, estate planning, and other advisory engagements.
- Conduct Canadian tax research and prepare technical memoranda, client correspondence, and supporting documentation.
- Correspond with and represent clients before the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), including responding to reviews, audits, objections, and information requests.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing timely, professional, and responsive service.
- Work closely with the team on client engagements and tax planning projects.
- Collaborate with accounting and bookkeeping team members to deliver integrated client service.
- Monitor client engagements, identify out-of-scope work, and communicate opportunities to management.
- Perform data analysis and financial reporting using Microsoft Excel.
- Prepare non-resident and other complex Canadian tax filings.
- Provide accounting and bookkeeping support, as required, to support client engagements.
- Maintain accurate project tracking and documentation using the firm's technology platforms.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation is preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of Canadian tax experience specializing in Canadian taxation.
- Experience preparing T1, T2, T3, GST/HST, and other Canadian tax filings.
- Experience supporting tax planning, tax research, and advisory engagements in a client-facing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian tax legislation and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administrative practices.
- Experience with Canadian tax preparation software.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO), Microsoft Office applications, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program (formerly the CICA In-Depth Tax Course) or a Master of Taxation (MTax) is considered an asset.
- US tax experience or education is considered an asset.
