About the Role
IT Real Simple is seeking a reliable, independent On-Call IT Field Support Technician to serve as our On-Site Technical Liaison in Fort St. John, BC.
This is a casual, on-call contractor position perfect for an IT student, a freelance technician, or a tech-savvy individual looking for supplementary income. In this role, you will provide critical Smart Hands support—executing physical hardware tasks and local infrastructure handling on-site while collaborating directly with our remote senior engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Physical Hardware Deployments: Unboxing, mounting, and physically installing IT assets including desktop PCs, monitors, VoIP phones, network switches, and routers.
- On-Site Infrastructure Assistance: Running, tracing, and neatly organizing Ethernet and power cables from workstations back to server racks.
- Local Triage & Troubleshooting: Performing initial physical diagnostic checks (verifying power delivery, checking network link lights, reseating loose memory modules or patch cables).
- Remote Team Collaboration: Serving as our local eyes and ears on the ground—following step-by-step documentation and live instructions from our centralized support desk via phone or chat.
- Device Replacement: Swapping out failing hardware components (hard drives, power supplies) or deploying pre-configured replacement units.
Requirements & Qualifications
- The Essentials: You must possess a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle to commute to local client sites.
- Basic Technical Aptitude: Comfort around computer hardware, cabling, and basic operating systems (Windows/Mac). If you enjoy building your own PCs or configuring home networks, you have the right baseline skills.
- Reliability & Communication: Excellent punctuality, a professional demeanor when interacting with clients, and the ability to clearly communicate physical observations to our remote engineers.
- Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, crawl under desks for cable routing, and work comfortably in server environments.
- Tools: Possession of basic hand tools (screwdrivers, zip ties, and a smartphone with internet access for communication) is required.
