Journeyman Framer/Carpenter – Permanent
The Framer/Carpenter performs structural carpentry required to support foundation repair projects, including framing, structural reinforcement, and restoration of site structures such as decks, fences, and stairs. The role requires strong knowledge of structural carpentry, blueprint reading, and safe job-site practices. Looking for a strong leader to help develop a construction team. Ideally this position would evolve into building and overseeing a team, hiring and training staff, supervise, assume leadership for seeking out residential and commercial work. Tendering for proposals seeking new business opportunities. Organize material and construction supplies, oversee projects to ensure them are meeting schedules and times.
What you will be doing as a Journeyman Framer/Carpenter:
- Perform structural framing and carpentry work related to foundation repair.
- Remove and replace rotted floor joists, subfloors, and walls.
- Accurate material take offs for all project components.
- Build and install support walls, retaining walls, and structural reinforcements.
- Construct concrete forms for foundations.
- Perform joist and beam repairs.
- Remove and reinstall fences, decks, stairs, and steps as required for project access.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and install wood and structural materials.
- Install structural components including floor beams, subflooring, and wall systems.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials.
- Operate and maintain various construction tools and equipment.
- Read and interpret engineered drawings, blueprints, material takeoffs and site plans.
- Prepare layouts in accordance with building codes and specifications.
- Perform general carpentry/framing duties as required.
- Ensure proper use and care of PPE and company equipment.
- Assist with training or mentoring apprentices and junior crew members when required.
- Use and maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment responsibly.
What you should have as a Journeyman Framer/Carpenter:
- 5+ years of carpentry or framing lead experience required.
- Experience in foundation repair, waterproofing, or structural carpentry.
- Manage projects on schedule and budget.
Certifications & Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Clean driver's abstract
- CSTS (Construction Safety Training System).
- First Aid certification an asset.
- Strong understanding of building principles and structural load distribution.
- Ability to read blueprints and perform material takeoffs.
- Physically capable of performing construction duties.
- Experience on existing and new construction, demolition and salvage, retrofits of residential and commercial properties.
- Good understanding of best practices in project costing to develop accurate take offs.
- Ability to manage a team and train.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn general construction practices and company procedures.
- Understand lifting and levelling of structures.
- Understand house lifting and moving.
- Understand different foundation types.
