We are seeking a skilled CNC Machine Operator to join our production team at Carver Cabinetry. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, running, and managing our Onsrud CNC router, utilizing Microvellum software and the machine's Fanuc control system to produce high-quality, custom cabinet components, door profiles, and millwork.
The ideal candidate has a solid background in CNC woodworking operations, nested-based manufacturing, and reading shop drawings. You will play a crucial role in maintaining smooth production workflows while upholding Carver Cabinetry’s standards for precision and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation & Setup: Set up, calibrate, and operate our Onsrud CNC router via the Fanuc controller, including vacuum zone management, tool changes, and offset adjustments.
- Microvellum Integration: Import, review, and process nested batch files generated through Microvellum to optimize sheet yield and ensure correct toolpath routing.
- Troubleshooting & Control Adjustments: Monitor feeds, speeds, and tool paths at the Fanuc control interface; make on-the-fly adjustments to prevent tear-out or tool wear on various sheet goods.
- Quality Control: Inspect machined components (gables, backs, face frames, doors) using calipers and tape measures to verify strict tolerances and squareness against shop drawings.
- Material Handling: Safely load raw sheet goods (MDF, plywood, melamine, solid wood) onto the CNC bed using material handling equipment or a forklift, and stage processed parts for edgebanding and assembly.
- Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on the Onsrud CNC router, including maintaining vacuum pumps, checking tool wear, and lubricating drive systems.
- Workspace Safety: Maintain an organized workstation and strictly adhere to shop safety practices, dust collection guidelines, and equipment safeguards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Technical Experience: Proven experience operating 3-axis CNC routers in a custom woodworking or cabinetry environment.
- Controller Knowledge: Hands-on experience operating Fanuc CNC controls (or similar G-code controllers).
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Microvellum software for processing work orders, nest sheets, and generating G-code files.
- Material & Tooling Aptitude: Strong understanding of spindle speeds, feed rates, chip loads, and tooling choices for various sheet goods and solid woods.
- Drawing & Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret detailed custom cabinet shop drawings, assembly prints, and cut lists.
- Precision & Measurement: High attention to detail with ability to use digital calipers, tape measures, and framing squares to check part specs.
- Material Handling: Forklift certification or experience safely handling heavy sheet goods is preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift sheet materials (50+ lbs) regularly and stand for the duration of a shift.
