As a BTW Supervisor, it is crucial to follow safety and security instructions based on internal and external regulations, which encompass both airline and regulatory requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Report to work on a regular and timely basis and report directly to the Operations Manager.
- Perform all functions of Operations Agent, as needed.
- Actively participate in the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Verify training and education is provided.
- Identify, correct, and actively seek out emerging hazards, and know effective control measures for those hazards.
- Directly observe workers and verify that workers’ performance meets expectations for safety, security, and operational compliance.
- Direct and instruct workers.
- Respond to worker questions and concerns.
- Ensure the health and safety of all workers.
- Provide/verify workers’ training before undertaking new tasks.
- Maintain a supervisor’s journal or operational log.
- Coordinate and oversee operational and baggage handling activities to support safe and on-time departures and arrivals.
- Ensure that processes are delivered within SLA standards and compliance limits while adhering to safety and security requirements.
- Schedule and coordinate employees as required, ensuring all shifts and operational requirements are covered.
- Work with the Operations Manager to ensure staffing levels are complete; and assist in the hiring process, including interviewing and delivering all training.
- Work with the Operations Manager to ensure employee assessments are completed in a timely fashion.
- Assist the Operations Manager in developing and implementing disciplinary measures in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist the Operations Manager in creating termination letters and executing an employee termination process in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Delegate daily operational responsibilities among team members and assign staff accordingly.
- Coordinate with Load Control and Bag Room for container planning and baggage operations.
- Ensure iPad loading instructions are completed accurately and in accordance with airline procedures.
- Communicate load planning instructions with ramp teams and coordinate hand baggage, special load, and baggage handling requirements.
- Communicate with airport authorities regarding gate, carousel, and operational changes in the event of delayed or irregular flights.
- Generate and verify reports according to airline procedures.
- Maintain ACARS communication with flight crews as required.
- Coordinate and communicate fuel figures with fueling suppliers and airline representatives.
- Coordinate Captain notifications and ensure NOTOC requirements are completed for Dangerous Goods (DGR) and special loads.
- Prepare and ensure complete and accurate flight documentation is handed over to flight crews in a timely manner.
- Prepare passenger and dead load information for upcoming operations.
- Prepare and verify EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) reports.
- Prepare General Declarations and coordinate required immigration documentation to ensure smooth crew arrivals and departures.
- Follow and enforce all airline standard operating procedures and safety/security instructions, both internal and external (i.e. airline and regulatory requirements).
- Ensure proper first aid procedures are administered to injured staff and correct reporting procedures are carried out.
- Ensure complete flight paperwork is submitted in a timely manner.
- Ensure all operational reports and required documentation are completed accurately and submitted to management in a timely fashion.
- Delegate job duties as required and ensure completion.
- Participate in oversight of all operations during hours when required.
- Maintain Quality Assurance oversight for operational issues relating to productivity, baggage handling, documentation, and safety, providing suitable corrective and/or preventative actions where necessary.
- Cooperate fully with Inspectors and airline representatives to achieve quality inspection commitments.
- Implement, maintain, and closely supervise all safety and security measures related to employees, baggage operations, facilities, and aircraft involved in the operation.
- Report Quality, Safety, and Security incidents to the management team.
- Participate in the continuous improvement of Operations and Baggage services by monitoring operational processes and analyzing Quality, Security, and Safety findings.
- Manage and supervise staff to provide excellent customer service and operational support.
- Maintain an understanding of and adhere to all applicable federal, airport, airline, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Build and maintain good relations with customers, airline representatives, and airport authorities, report irregularities, and take appropriate action.
- Participate and contribute to both internal and customer meetings, conduct daily shift briefings and safety meetings, and perform daily/weekly audits.
- Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate for the job.
- Work in operational environments and be willing to work outside in varying weather conditions when required.
- Perform other operational and baggage service duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Previous airline operations, baggage handling, and training experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead by example by creating a positive learning and work environment.
- Knowledge of airline operational procedures, load planning coordination, and baggage handling processes is required.
- Must have a valid RAIC, AVOP and a provincial Driver’s license
- You should have a flexible work schedule and be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are a must.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
- Carry out time-critical decisions.
- Self-starter, self-motivated, able to work within strict timelines in order to maintain on-time performance while ensuring safety and security at all times.
- Attentive to detail and able to follow procedures while maintaining operational flexibility.
- Basic computer literacy is preferred and ability to learn airline-specific computer software is required.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain any applicable transportation security clearance.
- Must successfully complete mandatory trainings
