As a CMD Driver, you are the face of our company. You will play an important role in delivering dependable service while representing our values through professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to safety.
Role Overview
As a Class 1 / Class 3 Driver, you will safely and efficiently operate waste and recycling collection equipment while providing reliable service to our customers. You will be responsible for servicing assigned locations, transporting materials to approved disposal facilities, completing required documentation, and ensuring all work is performed in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
This role requires a strong commitment to safety, attention to detail, and the ability to provide excellent customer service while working independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate waste and recycling collection vehicles and equipment.
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any safety or equipment concerns.
- Maintain clean, safe, and professional equipment.
- Transport and dispose of materials in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Verify materials being transported and identify prohibited materials or weight concerns.
- Complete daily paperwork, time reporting, route documentation, and required records accurately.
- Communicate regularly with Dispatch and supervisors regarding route status, delays, equipment concerns, and service requirements.
- Provide professional and courteous service to customers and the public.
- Perform basic equipment care, including fueling, cleaning, and routine maintenance tasks.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Report all incidents, injuries, hazards, or equipment concerns promptly.
Skills & Qualifications
- Valid Class 1 BC Driver’s Licence or Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Brake endorsement.
- Clean driver’s abstract required.
- Experience operating waste collection equipment, commercial vehicles, or similar equipment is an asset.
- Knowledge of commercial, residential, construction site safety, truck maintenance, and transportation regulations.
- Ability to safely operate and understand vehicle size, weight restrictions, and equipment requirements.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Reliable, dependable, and safety-focused.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing priorities.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding role that requires the ability to:
- Sit and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Frequently enter and exit vehicles.
- Perform repetitive movements and equipment checks.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Move or push equipment and materials as required.
- Assist with equipment preparation, cleaning, bin/tote preparation, decal application, and site cleanup.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance tasks.
Safety Expectations
At CMD, safety is a priority. Employees are expected to:
- Operate vehicles and equipment safely and legally at all times.
- Complete required inspections and documentation.
- Maintain required personal protective equipment, including hard hat, high-visibility clothing, eye protection, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Follow all applicable company, provincial, and federal safety requirements.
Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
