Horticulturalist Position Summary
Landesign Landscape Construction Ltd. is seeking an experienced and passionate Horticulturalist to join our team. This position is ideal for someone with strong plant knowledge, leadership abilities, and hands-on landscape maintenance and installation experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying, installing, maintaining, and caring for a wide variety of trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, herbs, and seasonal plant material while leading small crews and ensuring exceptional quality on every project.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise small landscape crews while promoting a positive and productive work environment.
- Identify and provide expert care for trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, ornamental grasses, herbs, and other plant material.
- Perform planting, transplanting, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, staking, watering, and seasonal maintenance.
- Diagnose plant health concerns including pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Read landscape drawings and planting plans to ensure accurate installation.
- Coordinate daily work activities, materials, and equipment with project management.
- Conduct daily Pre-Task Planning and ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Operate company trucks and safely transport crews, equipment, and materials.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, cleanliness, and professionalism on all project sites.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, consultants, and fellow team members.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2–3 years of horticultural, landscape installation, or landscape maintenance experience.
- Post-secondary education in Horticulture, Arboriculture, Landscape Technology, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Equivalent hands-on industry experience will be considered.
- Strong knowledge of plant identification, plant health care, soil conditions, and proper horticultural practices.
- Experience leading or mentoring small crews is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to read planting plans and landscape drawings.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work independently.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable operating and driving a Ford F-350 or similar full-size work truck.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
Preferred Skills
- Strong knowledge of native, ornamental, and drought-tolerant plant species.
- Understanding of irrigation systems and seasonal plant care.
- Experience with municipal, commercial, and park landscape projects.
- Knowledge of invasive species management and sustainable horticultural practices.
- First Aid certification is an asset.
- Pesticide Applicator Certificate is an asset.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $28.00-$35.00 per hour
