Job Summary:
We are seeking a friendly, reliable, and customer-focused Counter Assistant with basic cooking experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist in the daily operations of the deli counter, including food preparation, slicing meats and cheeses, maintaining cleanliness, and providing excellent customer service. Basic cooking knowledge is required to support light food prep and hot food service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and serve customers in a courteous and efficient manner
- Slice meats and cheeses to customer specifications using deli slicers
- Prepare deli items such as sandwiches, salads, wraps, and hot meals
- Assist with basic cooking tasks such as grilling, heating, or baking pre-prepared items
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, following food safety and hygiene standards
- Restock deli cases, prep stations, and condiments as needed
- Label and rotate products according to store policies and expiration dates
- Handle customer inquiries and special orders with professionalism
- Assist with inventory, receiving deliveries, and organizing stock
- Operate deli equipment safely and responsibly
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a deli, kitchen, or food service environment preferred
- Basic cooking or food prep skills required
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (Food Handlers certification is a plus)
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
- Team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
Work Schedule:
- Flexible availability including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Pay: From $17.60 per hour
Experience:
- Cooking: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Food Safe, SafeCheck, Food Handler or equivalent (preferred)
