JOB PURPOSE
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day administration and operations of the Fisheries Program office while performing duties and accountabilities in the field.
KEY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Essential Field Duties
· Perform commercial harvest and other necessary data collection and entry
· Provide primary error checking of data collected
· In the field (stationary and or mobile assessment facilities) collect harvest and biological data and samples from the Saugeen Ojibway commercial harvest
· Perform all necessary work pertaining to the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation Calcified Growth Structure Analysis Facility including ensuring proper storage of calcified structures
· Responsible for cleaning, mounting, capturing images and ageing calcified structures for the purpose of fish age determination
· Report on 100% of the commercial fishing effort and 100% of the landings
· Assist with the coordination and implementation of all field sampling programs
· Liaising with staff and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation commercial fisherman on a regular basis
· Provide Supervisor with daily updates and weekly reports of vessel activity
· Complete all daily activity logs
· Arranging and tracking servicing and maintenance of assessment vehicles and maintaining fuel logs
· Ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of all assessment gear and equipment including, but not limited to: knives, scales, VHF radios, tweezers, containers and data form folders, tools, personal protective gear, boating equipment, boat and trucks
Essential Office Duties
· First point of contact by phone, e-mail and in-person
· Ensuring office is running effective and efficiently
· Maintaining an accurate and secure filing and record system
· Ensuring field crews have data forms and other needed documentation and information
· Ordering and inventory control of all equipment and supplies for office and field work
· Monitoring program budget and reporting projected over expenditures
· Ensuring bills for payment are accurate and completed in a timely manner
· Assisting Supervisor with training of staff
· Assisting Supervisor in matters pertaining awareness of culture and heritage within the community
· Perform all duties to best of ability following all operating procedures, policies and guidelines
· Provide additional administrative support as directed
· Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
· Grade 12 or equivalent
· One (1) year experience in Fisheries or related field
Designations, Licences & Requirements:
· Valid Ontario Class G2 Driver’s Licence for frequent use of work vehicle
· Small Vessel Operating Licence or ability to obtain within probationary period
· Valid CPR and First Aid or ability to obtain within probationary period
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Understanding of biological and ecological assessment and familiarity with fisheries assessment gear
· Knowledge of Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation Fisheries and fishing techniques
· Competent with computers and various software (MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook)
· Confident with office equipment and minor troubleshooting (printer, copier, scanner, fax, etc.)
· Ability to adjust between working in both an office and in field environments
· Basic mathematical skills for data collection and finance related duties
· Organized to handle a high volume of work, varying priorities/responsibilities and meet deadlines
· Attention to detail for data collection and other documentation
· Understanding the importance of confidentiality, privacy and tact

· Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal and external parties and for documentation and reports
· Problem solving and conflict resolution skills for handling difficult situations and or persons

· Ability to make sound decisions quickly in following predetermined operating procedures and guidelines with minimal supervision
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ensure reporting employees are aware of Health and Safety Policy and Procedure Manual and Occupational Health and Safety acts and regulations
· Ensure reporting employees use prescribed protective equipment and/or devices
· Advise reporting employees of potential and actual hazards
· Take every reasonable precaution in the circumstances for the protection of reporting employees

WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Physical Demands – Short Periods of stooping, reaching, pushing, walking, climbing, standing, kneeling, lifting and/or fixed work position.
2. Environment – Mix of in-office, other indoor locations and frequent exposure to outside environments that some may find undesirable, with adverse weather conditions, temperature extremes and safety hazards.
3. Mental Effort – Periods of handling of difficult situations and or persons that some may find stressful and or upsetting. Accuracy of reports and meeting deadlines.
4. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work – Regular full-time hours of 37.5 hours per week with availability for evening, weekend, holiday and overtime work as required.
