About Us
Bike Doc Calgary has been Calgary's go-to mobile bike repair shop since 2016. Instead of customers hauling their bikes to a shop, we bring a fully-equipped service van to their driveway, office, or trailhead. We're growing and looking for a skilled bicycle mechanic to join us on the road.
The Position
This is a mobile mechanic role — you'll be driving our service van out to customer locations across Calgary and the surrounding areas to perform tune-ups and repairs on-site. Every job is a chance to deliver a great experience and build the kind of trust that turns customers into regulars.
We provide everything you need to do the job:
- Fully outfitted mobile service van (2014 Nissan NV2500)
- All tools and shop equipment
- Parts and consumables for every job
- Gas and vehicle maintenance
- Branded uniform
- Booking, dispatch, and customer communication handled for you
You just show up ready to wrench.
Pay Structure
This is a commission-based position — you earn a percentage of every job you complete. Pay scales with experience, speed, and the type of service performed. Our service menu includes:
- Safety Tune ($55)
- Annual Tune ($80)
- Pro Overhaul ($105)
- À la carte repairs and parts installs
The more jobs you take on and the more efficient you are, the more you make. Strong mechanics with good throughput can earn very well, especially during peak season (spring through fall). Pay rates and commission structure will be discussed in the interview.
Responsibilities
- Drive the service van to scheduled customer appointments across Calgary and surrounding areas
- Perform tune-ups (safety, annual, full overhaul) according to our service checklists
- Diagnose mechanical issues and explain repair options to customers clearly
- Handle drivetrain work: chain, cassette, derailleur adjustments, shifting setup
- Service hydraulic and mechanical brakes (bleeds, pad changes, adjustments)
- Wheel work: truing, spoke replacement, hub service, tire and tubeless setup
- Bottom bracket, headset, and bearing service
- Suspension lower-leg service and basic shock servicing (an asset)
- E-bike maintenance and diagnostics (an asset)
- Keep the van clean, organized, and stocked at the start and end of each day
- Complete digital service forms and checklists for each job
- Represent Bike Doc Calgary professionally — you ARE the brand when you're at someone's door
- Communicate inventory needs so parts get restocked
Skills & Requirements
Must-haves:
- 2+ years experience as a bicycle mechanic (shop or equivalent)
- Solid working knowledge of road, mountain, hybrid, and kids' bikes
- Comfortable with current drivetrain standards (1x, 2x, electronic shifting, etc.)
- Hydraulic brake bleed experience (Shimano, SRAM)
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong customer service skills — friendly, patient, able to explain things to non-cyclists
- Self-directed, punctual, and able to manage your own day on the road
- Physically able to lift bikes (up to ~50 lbs) and stand/work for full shifts
Nice to have:
- Wheel-building experience
- Suspension service experience (Fox, RockShox)
- E-bike service certification or experience
- Personal cycling enthusiasm (you'll get it more if you ride)
- Existing mechanic certifications (Park Tool School, BBI, United Bicycle Institute, etc.)
