Position Summary
The Community Life and Spiritual Growth Coordinator strengthens SSUC’s role as an affirming, safe, and expansive spiritual community. The position focuses on building relationships, expanding programs, deepening belonging, and increasing SSUC’s presence within Edmonton’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community and beyond.
This role blends community development, spiritual formation, outreach, and organizational coordination to support a thriving intergenerational community.
In the first year, the successful candidate will help strengthen adult and intergenerational programming, expand community partnerships, support existing ministries, foster leadership development, and create opportunities for new and existing members to deepen their sense of belonging.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement
· Foster adult and intergenerational connections that support belonging, personal growth, and spiritual exploration.
· Develop and expand affirming programming that supports 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals while fostering belonging for people of all identities.
· Build relationships through active listening, presence, and connection-making.
· Support and coordinate small groups, including spirituality groups, interest-based gatherings, values-aligned initiatives, and age-related programs.
· Provide logistical support to existing groups and help cultivate and mentor emerging leaders.
· Welcome newcomers and connect them with relevant groups, programs, and opportunities for engagement.
· Collaborate with SSUC-connected ministries, including Camp Dragonfly, Emberwood, and Evergreens.
· Identify grant opportunities and assist with grant applications.
Partnerships and Outreach
· Develop collaborative programming and shared advocacy opportunities with community partners.
· Strengthen SSUC’s visibility and presence within the greater community and Edmonton’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
· Build and maintain relationships with values-aligned organizations, community groups, and networks.
Spiritual Formation
· Support and expand spiritual formation opportunities, including small groups, discussion circles, workshops, and educational offerings.
· Embody and promote SSUC’s commitment to expansive spirituality, ethical stewardship, inclusion, and social justice.
· Provide coordination and administrative support to kidSPIRIT and Youth programming.
Qualifications
· Experience in community development, congregational life, non-profit leadership, education, social work, or other values-based organizations.
· Demonstrated ability to lead change, build consensus, and inspire diverse groups of people.
· Strong emotional intelligence, trauma-informed practice, and the ability to navigate conflict with empathy and professionalism.
· Excellent facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
· Experience working with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and intergenerational groups.
· Experience in project management, program development, and volunteer engagement.
· Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
Education and Experience
· Diploma or degree in community development, education, leadership, theology, social work, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Training in trauma-informed practice, spiritual leadership, community engagement, or related areas is considered an asset.
Requirements
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
· Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
· Ability to work primarily on-site in Edmonton, with some flexibility based on program and organizational needs.
