Mandatory Qualifications:
-Certified Water or Wastewater Operator holding one or more of the following:
- Water Treatment Operator certification;
- Water Distribution Operator certification;
- Wastewater Treatment Operator certification; or
- Wastewater Collection Operator certification.
-Minimum one year of relevant experience in water or wastewater operations, sampling, inspections, compliance monitoring, or field data collection.
-Valid Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle with the ability to travel to remote locations.
-Ability to pass a criminal background check and obtain reliability clearance.
Job Overview
Aureus Solutions is seeking a Certified Water/Wastewater Field Inspection and Sampling Technician to support sampling and inspection initiatives of water and wastewater in the Yukon Region and Northern British Columbia.
The successful candidate will support site visits, complete on-site assessments, assist with potable water sampling collection, etc.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the project team with:
- Potable water sampling.
- Supporting water and wastewater system inspections.
- Meet with community and site representatives.
- Record accurate field notes, observations, photographs, and inspection data.
- Collect water samples in accordance with the project sampling plan.
- Use sample bottles supplied by an accredited laboratory.
- Complete chain of custody forms accurately.
- Ensure proper sample preservation, storage, handling, and transport.
- Identify and communicate sampling, access, scheduling, or record-keeping challenges to the Project Manager.
- Provide field notes, photographs, completed forms, and supporting documentation to the Project Manager in a timely manner.
- Communicate with site representatives, and project team members in a respectful and professional manner.
- Follow Aureus health and safety procedures and site-specific safety requirements.
Other Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the mandatory qualification criteria outlined above and be able to demonstrate the following:
- Ability to work independently with off-site supervision.
- Ability to complete accurate, legible field notes and upload photographs, forms, and supporting records.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Ability to lift approximately 30 lbs, including sample coolers and field equipment.
- Ability to work outdoors in summer and winter conditions.
- Practical understanding of water and/or wastewater system operations.
- Ability to follow prescribed sampling, inspection, and chain of custody procedures.
- Ability to identify missing information, unusual observations, or potential operational concerns.
- Ability to manage field logistics, including samples, bottles, coolers, field forms, COCs, PPE, and travel schedules.
- Professional and respectful communication skills when working with operators, First Nation representatives, community representatives, project coordinators, and other team members.
- Flexibility to adapt to weather delays, remote travel challenges, community events, operator availability, and site access limitations.
- Professional judgement when working around water and wastewater infrastructure.
- Experience working in First Nation, northern, or remote communities.
- Experience conducting operator interviews, inspections, or field questionnaires.
- Familiarity with the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.
- Experience using Excel, electronic field forms, tablets, SharePoint, OneDrive, or other field data collection tools.
- WHMIS, First Aid, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, confined space awareness, or other relevant safety training.
Working Conditions
This position involves fieldwork in remote communities and may include:
- Travel by vehicle or air.
- Outdoor work in variable weather conditions.
- Work in water treatment plants, wastewater facilities, pump stations, lagoons, wells, reservoirs, and community buildings.
- Exposure to water and wastewater infrastructure, chemicals, hazardous materials, uneven terrain, and operational equipment.
- Schedule changes due to weather, access restrictions, community availability, or travel limitations.
Pay: $40.00-$45.00 per hour
