Elim Village operates two exceptional aging in place communities for older adults. Our retirement villages are located in Surrey and Chilliwack, B.C., where over 1,000 seniors call Elim Village ‘home’. JOB SUMMARY
The Campus Pastor is a preacher, teacher, leader, and a member of the Pastoral Ministry Team at Elim Village Fleetwood. Performed from a Christian faith perspective, the Pastoral team sets the direction of spiritual wellness within the community, working with other Elim teams to foster community, enrich the spiritual lives of residents, staff and volunteers, and help them feel the embrace of a caring Christian community.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master of Divinity or equivalent degree
- Completion of courses or training relevant to spiritual care, loss, grief support, and end-of-life care. Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with older adults
- Sensitivity and the ability to work within spiritual, religious, and cultural diversity
- Proficient in computer and communication technology
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Skilled and effective in leading and preaching at church services, Bible studies, funerals, and memorial services
- Excellent active listening, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member
- Multicultural understanding and the ability to respect and facilitate support for the various spiritual paths, lifestyles, beliefs, and values of Elim’s residents and staff
- Able to initiate conversations and build rapport easily with a wide diversity of residents and their families
- Committed to personal, physical, spiritual, emotional, and intellectual well-being and development
- Strong understanding of and compliance with the principles and practices of confidentiality
- Able to uphold ethical and professional standards in a manner that honors the values, standards of care, and faith heritage of Elim Village
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintaining an active and visible presence within Elim Village
- Preaching at and/or leading worship services, funeral services, prayer services, and other spiritual gatherings
- Enhancing the spiritual well-being of the community through traditional and creative methods, enabling everyone “to feel the embrace of a caring Christian community.”
- Providing a caring and compassionate presence in daily interactions
- Leading educational opportunities, such as Bible studies
- Delivering high-quality written and verbal communication
- Responding to events where residents, families, and staff members would benefit from spiritual support, guidance, and the leadership presence of a Pastor
- Participating in meetings and program events as required
- Performing other duties as assigned
NOTES
- This is a regular part-time position, 30 hours per week
- This position might require flexibility to work evenings or weekends for special events or meetings, both on and off-site.
- Ability and willingness to be on call periodically for Pastoral Duties
- Ability and willingness to do emergency visits as necessary
