Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and personable Store Clerk to join our team at Ultramar Gas Station/F&H Convenience Store. In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for our customers, providing friendly and efficient service at the till, on the sales floor, and at the pumps. Your ability to communicate effectively, work quickly under pressure, and keep the store running smoothly will be essential to customer satisfaction. This position offers an opportunity to develop practical retail and customer service skills within a busy, supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Operate the cash register/till, process payments (cash, debit, credit), and handle transactions accurately
- Process fuel sales and assist customers with pump-related issues
- Stock, face, and rotate shelves, coolers, and displays with merchandise
- Check expiry dates and maintain product freshness standards
- Keep the store, till area, and washrooms clean and well-maintained
- Verify age for restricted product sales (tobacco, lottery, alcohol where applicable)
- Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling to enhance customer experience
- Assist customers with inquiries about products, promotions, or services
- Handle basic customer complaints and escalate issues when necessary
- Monitor inventory levels and report low stock to management
- Follow all safety, loss prevention, and cash-handling procedures
- Collaborate with team members and shift managers to ensure smooth store operations
Requirements
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual proficiency is an asset
- Previous cashier, retail, or customer service experience is an advantage
- Ability to accurately handle cash and operate a point-of-sale (POS) system
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and performing light physical tasks (lifting, stocking, cleaning)
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining professionalism
- Basic math and attention to detail for accurate transactions
- Must be able to work independently during solo shifts
