Staff Plus is hiring a QA Technician for our client in the food manufacturing industry. The QA Technician is responsible for maintaining food safety and quality standards throughout the production process. This role involves performing inspections, product testing, environmental monitoring, and ensuring compliance with SQF standards, GMPs, and food safety requirements.
Shift: Flexible to work day and afternoon shifts as required
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate laboratory scheduling with plant production schedules
- Calibrate laboratory equipment according to product specifications
- Perform pre-operational inspections and swabbing to verify sanitation and food safety standards
- Inspect batching stations and validate ingredients, formulations, and processes
- Conduct Critical Control Point (CCP) verifications and monitor compliance
- Perform bench analysis on production samples and document results
- Collect microbiological samples and coordinate shipment to external laboratories
- Conduct continuous line inspections and GMP audits throughout the shift
- Manage product holds, releases, disposals, and rework activities
- Investigate and document non-conformance reports (NCRs) and customer complaints (SNCRs)
- Perform finished product testing, sensory evaluations, and quality analysis
- Conduct incoming raw material inspections and review Certificates of Analysis (CoAs)
- Monitor and document batching adjustments as required
- Perform environmental monitoring and cooler/freezer inspections
- Collect and manage product retention samples
- Complete QA documentation and prepare shift reports
- Support food safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a food manufacturing environment
- Minimum 1 year of experience as QA Technician
- College Diploma in Food Science or a related field
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete documentation accurately
- Knowledge of food safety programs, GMPs, HACCP, and quality systems is an asset
- Ability to understand, interpret, and operate laboratory equipment
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn and work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Ability to stand and walk frequently throughout the shift
- Comfortable working in environments with varying temperatures, including heat, humidity, and cold conditions
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with high noise levels
- Comfortable handling food ingredients and working around common allergens
- Ability to work around dust, food odors, and strong scents
- Strong data collection, documentation, and analytical skills
