We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating a variety of equipment, including front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and trucks, in a safe and efficient manner. You will play a key part in moving, lifting, digging, and transporting materials, while also ensuring equipment is properly inspected, cleaned, maintained, and secured in line with all legislation, policies, and procedures.
This role is based in our North Okanagan location, 6674 Bella Vista Rd, Vernon.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate and maneuver heavy machinery according to job requirements, site conditions, and safety protocols.
- Load, unload, and transport materials using heavy equipment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the handling process.
- Assist in site preparation activities, such as clearing land, grading terrain, and excavating areas for construction projects.
- Provide support to construction crews by moving and positioning materials, equipment, or structures as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on heavy machinery, including inspections, lubrication, and minor repairs to ensure optimal performance and longevity of equipment.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures while operating heavy machinery to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to property.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other personnel to coordinate tasks, report issues, and ensure smooth operations on the job site.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and any incidents or accidents that occur during operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum completion of secondary school
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license in good standing
- Minimum of 3 years proven work experience operating heavy machinery in a construction, manufacturing, or similar industrial environment.
- Proficiency in the operation of specific types of heavy equipment, with the ability to handle various tasks with precision and control.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations related to heavy equipment operation, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and operating heavy machinery in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on heavy equipment is desirable.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers and other stakeholders on the job site.

What We Offer
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00 per hour.
It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon several factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, education, experience, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
