Are you seeking a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for Foreperson(s) - Rail Vehicles to join our team. The Foreperson, Rail Vehicles will act as a Team Leader for the department where they will plan, schedule, direct and control maintenance activities within the section.
In this role you will supervise and instruct unionized employees and at times, contractors. In this role, you will conduct training sessions, investigations, inspections and quality audits.
You may be required to work at various Carhouse and Shop facilities based on operational and business needs.
This position provides training and experience opportunities that would prepare the applicant for a supervisor position within the Streetcar Maintenance Department. These development opportunities may require you to transfer to other Foreperson positions within the Department.
- Monitor and track information, data, records, and/or equipment inventory, following up, and updating as required.
- Inspect equipment items and rebuild or improve functionality through forming, bending, welding, or other methods of fabrication.
- Assist or prepare reports, estimates, employee related documents, schedules, inventory, etc., and distribute to appropriate parties in accordance with established standards.
- Provide assistance in the preparation, development, monitoring, or other needs for a given project or organizational unit.
- Ensure employees are appropriately trained on aspects of work, policies, and safety, and that track maintenance projects are aligned with standards.
- Liaise with other colleagues, support staff, other departments, and potentially external customers or stakeholders concerning routine matters related to the work assigned.
- Planning, adjusting, and projecting work, schedules, costs, and systems as needed.
- Verify the accuracy, quality, reliability, functionality, system requirements, and/or specifications are met in a given process, document, piece of equipment, system, or work method.
- Review data for discrepancies, errors, trends, or potential cost savings, report and provide suggested solutions as necessary. Evaluate the impact and implications of findings.
- Complete tasks required to manage employees (administrative duties) along with approving or authorizing requests which are standard and meet related policy expectations and compliance regulations.

- Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in electrical or mechanical engineering technology or relevant field. Alternatively, a combination of education, training and experience that is considered equivalent will be accepted.
- Direct work-experience in an environment where vehicle components and vehicle bodies would be inspected, maintained and repaired to safety critical standards, and prepared for service.
- Knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and air-conditioning systems utilized on revenue and service vehicles, combined with a sound knowledge of diagnostic, inspection, repair and maintenance procedures for these components and vehicle structures.
- Understanding how the various skills associated with the maintenance of revenue and non-revenue transit vehicles are utilized in a vehicle repair environment.
- Ability to supervise the activities of a group of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled unionized employees.
- Understanding of applicable regulations governing the maintenance of transit vehicles and applicable environmental regulations is preferred.
- Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to create and interpret technical reports.
- Strong scheduling and organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Must possess a valid Ontario class “G” driver’s license in good standing.
