Join our team and what we'll accomplish together
The Wireline Performance Engineering team is a newly created function within TELUS Network Operations that's driving a fundamental shift in how we understand and optimize our wireline network performance. This is a rare opportunity to join a team building something entirely new. We're establishing data-driven insights into network health, capacity, and performance that will lead to meaningful improvements and make a real difference. You'll work alongside a talented team of engineers with deep networking and data analytics expertise, collaborating across the organization to transform raw network data into actionable intelligence that keeps our network running at peak performance and enables faster incident response. As a founding member of this newly created function, you'll have direct influence over how we define success metrics, tools, and ways of working.
What you'll do
Lead the design and implementation of data collection strategies for wireline network devices, working independently to identify data sources and pull insights that inform network performance understanding
Collaborate with cross-functional performance engineering teams (mobility RAN, mobility core) and frontline operations teams to understand network issues, gaps, and stakeholder needs
Develop and own performance metrics and thresholds for your assigned network domain, establishing new data-driven insights that drive measurable improvements to network performance
Analyze complex datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, and root causes of network issues, translating findings into actionable recommendations for operations teams
Design and present dashboards and alerts to internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity on what data means and what actions downstream teams should take
Drive a shift-left strategy for network analytics, defining data requirements and key metrics during the development phase to ensure full observability and performance visibility from the first day of launch.
What you bring
7+ years of professional experience in network engineering, network operations, or data analytics
Strong foundational knowledge in IP networking fundamentals and wireline network architecture, OR strong expertise in AI/machine learning and data analytics (we're open to either skillset as a primary strength)
Proven experience working with large datasets, performing data analysis, and translating complex data into insights and visualizations
Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex technical problems while collaborating effectively across teams and influencing stakeholders without direct authority
Experience designing and building dashboards, alerts, or monitoring solutions for technical or operational audiences
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience in network engineering or data analytics)
Great-to-have
Experience with observability platforms and data collection tools such as Kafka, NiFi, BigQuery, Splunk, Grafana, or similar technologies
Proficiency in Python, SQL, and data science libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
Experience with AI/LLM tools and frameworks (such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, OpenAI Agents SDK, or CrewAI) for building generative AI applications, including MLOps/LLMOps, model evaluation, monitoring, cloud AI platforms (Google Vertex AI, Azure AI Foundry, Amazon SageMaker), and responsible AI governance practices
Familiarity with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, OpenAI Agents SDK, CrewAI, or similar
Salary Range: $86,000-$136,000
Performance Bonus or Sales Incentive Plan: 15%
Actual total compensation will be determined based on factors such as knowledge, skills, performance and experience. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply, even if the posted salary range doesn't match your expectations. We're open to discussing competitive compensation packages tailored to your experience level and expertise. TELUS offers rewarding benefits, which may vary per job function, such as:
Comprehensive total rewards package highlighting competitive salary and bonus structures, minimum 3 weeks of vacation, and flexible benefits plan to meet the needs of you and your family
Flexibility to work in-office, virtually or a combination of both, based on the role's requirements
