Position OverviewUpstaff Employment Services is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for an exciting travel nursing opportunity within the Acute Medical Stroke Unit at St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.This position is ideal for a nurse with demonstrated experience in stroke care and acute medical nursing, capable of delivering high-quality, evidence-based care in a specialized 10-bed stroke unit. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team to support positive patient outcomes while maintaining NSHA clinical standards.Accommodation will be provided by the vendor for the duration of the assignment.Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients admitted to the Acute Medical Stroke Unit.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Deliver evidence-based care to patients experiencing acute stroke and related neurological conditions.
- Monitor patient progress, recognize changes in condition, and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, patients, and families to coordinate care.
- Provide clinical leadership in complex and unpredictable patient care situations.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation in accordance with NSHA policies and procedures.
- Participate in discharge planning and patient/family education.
- Maintain compliance with professional nursing standards, best practices, and organizational policies.
Required Qualifications
- Current registration and good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Recent experience working in Acute Medical and Stroke Care settings.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Experience managing complex patient care needs in an acute care environment.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Current certifications required by NSHA and provincial regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized training or certifications related to Stroke Care.
- Previous experience in neurological, stroke, or acute medicine units.
- Travel nursing experience considered an asset.
