Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Shop Manager to lead daily operations within our fabrication shop in Nisku, AB. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing production activities, managing personnel, coordinating workflow, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the required quality standards.This role requires a hands-on leader with strong operational experience who can balance productivity, workforce management, safety, quality, and customer expectations in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day fabrication shop operations and production activities.
- Plan, prioritize, and coordinate workflow to meet project schedules and deadlines.
- Supervise shop personnel including welders, fitters, labourers, operators, and support staff.
- Monitor productivity, labour utilization, and shop performance metrics.
- Ensure all work meets quality standards, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Promote and enforce company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, and shop resources efficiently.
- Work closely with project managers, estimators, and field teams to align priorities and schedules.
- Support recruitment, training, mentorship, and performance management of shop personnel.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Oversee equipment maintenance schedules and ensure shop assets remain operational.
- Maintain accurate reporting related to production, staffing, safety, and operational performance.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in a supervisory or management role within fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
- Strong understanding of fabrication shop workflows and production processes.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary shop teams.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and project specifications.
- Strong planning, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in structural steel, pipe fabrication, or heavy industrial fabrication environments.
- Knowledge of welding, fitting, material handling, and shop operations.
- Experience implementing lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with production scheduling and resource planning systems.
- Strong understanding of Alberta safety requirements and industrial best practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to regularly walk and supervise activities throughout the fabrication shop.
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment, welding operations, and industrial machinery.
- Ability to occasionally lift materials and inspect active work areas.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $90 - $120/hr
