Cermaq British Columbia is currently seeking a permanent full-time Skipper to join and support our saltwater team on the coasts of Vancouver Island.

Position Details:
-
Based on the barge with an 8-days on / 6-days off camp shift schedule
-
Occasional overtime as required
-
Outdoor, hands-on physical work in a marine environment
Key Responsibilities:
-
Assist with the installation of all clean nets on site, the removal of all unused nets, and ensure all net tag numbers are available for inventory;
-
Assist with mort allocation, sealice treatments, and harvesting of salmon;
-
Follow all biosecurity procedures pre and post bin transport;
-
Hands-on mechanical maintenance and proper upkeep of barge to ensure vessel is maintained to Transport Canada and Cermaq operating standards;
-
Familiarity with maintenance and startup logs for main engines and crane motors;
-
Familiarity with Barge Logbook, safety check list and all other company documents;
-
Familiarity with sourcing and purchasing of barge parts and equipment as needed;
-
Assist with movement of compressors, consumable items, feed and fuel between sites;
-
Assist Operations Manager and outside contractors when needed;
-
Coaching and mentoring deckhands;
-
Participate in education programs as required by regulation and made available from time to time or any other courses deemed necessary to maintain safe operation of barge and equipment;

Updating the team’s training activities in DATS;
-
Understand and adhere to government regulations, Standard Operating Practices, WorkSafe BC regulations and company biosecurity rules and practices;

Position Qualifications:

60-ton Limited Master
-
Mechanical training or equivalent
-
Mechanical work experience
-
Ability to evaluate information and analyze problems logically to develop solutions
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-
Familiarity with the maintenance and upkeep of the barge
-
Proficient with forklifts, power tools and heavy equipment
-
Possess strength and mobility to performance physical work outdoors in all weather conditions, use basic hand and power tools and equipment, lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and heaver weights with the use of proper equipment

Strong organization and time-management skills
