Job Overview
This role is primarily field-based and involves participating in and leading environmental investigations and inspections. The successful candidate will support a wide range of projects including Phase I and II ESAs, remediation programs, landfill monitoring, designated substance surveys, and indoor air quality investigations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
- Perform groundwater and soil delineation and remediation activities
- Conduct excavations, landfill monitoring, DSS, IAQ, and mould inspections
- Collect and document soil, groundwater, surface water, and air samples
- Assess contamination levels and evaluate environmental site conditions
- Survey and measure groundwater elevations
- Design and/or follow established methodologies for environmental sampling and analysis
- Implement quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) protocols
- Measure and document field characteristics of soils, river channels, and biological systems
- Prepare detailed field notes and maintain accurate records
- Input borehole logs and well records
- Assist in preparing technical reports and creating maps/figures using AutoCAD
- Support Project Managers with reporting and project coordination
- Execute all procedures in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field
- 2–5 years of relevant field experience (consulting experience preferred)
- Working knowledge of environmental regulations in Ontario
- Experience with sampling techniques and field equipment
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and willingness to travel
- Certification or eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), or similar designation is considered an asset
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments under the Ontario Regulation 153/04
- Knowledge of standards set by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks
- Familiarity with groundwater monitoring programs and remediation technologies
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple field assignments
