Accountant / Financial Operations Specialist
Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accountant to support the financial operations of our organization. The successful candidate will manage financial records, ensure regulatory compliance, support strategic decision-making, and contribute to overall business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and general ledger accounts.
- Compile and present financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial statements.
- Monitor company income, expenses, and profitability across projects and contracts.
- Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support operational decisions.
- Track project costs and provide financial insights on labour, equipment, and material expenses.
Payroll & Compliance
- Administer payroll for employees and subcontractors.
- Prepare and file WCB reports, payroll remittances, and tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with CRA regulations, employment standards, and financial reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and manage deductions, benefits, and statutory reporting.
Accounting & Audit Oversight
- Perform financial audits and review internal financial processes.
- Identify discrepancies and recommend improvements to financial systems and controls.
- Maintain documentation to support audits, tax filings, and financial reviews.
Business Operations & Contract Support
- Prepare bids and assist in completing Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
- Support preparation of contract budgets and project financial plans.
- Help evaluate financial risks associated with contracts and business opportunities.
- Support negotiations related to financial terms of agreements when required.
Client & Business Support
- Meet with management or clients when necessary to discuss financial information related to projects.
- Provide financial insights that support company growth and operational efficiency.
Team & Operational Support
- Manage workloads, deadlines, and financial deliverables within the team.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure efficient business operations.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Experience with payroll administration and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of CRA regulations, WCB reporting, and payroll compliance.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Wave, Sage, or similar systems preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with project accounting or construction-related accounting.
- Experience preparing financial information for RFPs or contract bids.
- Familiarity with service-based or contracting businesses.
Schedule: Part-time, approximately 5–10 hours per week
Compensation: $20–$25 per hour, depending on experience
This role requires approximately 5–10 hours per week, with flexibility depending on payroll cycles, tax filings, RFP & RFI and financial reporting deadlines.
Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
